We are seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to provide specialist assessment, treatment, and risk management for individuals with complex mental health and forensic needs in community-based settings.

Role Overview

This role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred psychiatric care, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to support individuals with forensic histories, mental illness, and complex behavioural presentations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic psychiatric assessments, risk formulation, and management planning
  • Provide expert clinical input on complex cases, including dual diagnosis and behavioural needs
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across mental health and disability services
  • Support clinical governance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to maintaining standards aligned with national regulatory bodies
  • Provide cover for consultant colleagues as required

Requirements

  • Specialist registration with the Irish Medical Council (or eligibility)
  • Proven experience in forensic psychiatry
  • Strong skills in risk assessment and biopsychosocial formulation
  • Experience working with complex mental health and/or intellectual disability populations
  • Excellent communication, decision-making, and teamwork abilities
