As a Financial Accountant, you would be responsible for oversight of the group balance sheet, providing reviews of financial controls and policies around balance sheet reporting and technical input on group accounting policies. You would support the annual and quarterly statutory reporting at group and individual company level, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the preparation of consolidated and individual company statutory accounts and financial statements, with a key responsibility for initial review to ensure compliance with latest accounting standards.
- Improving the quality of group disclosures at both consolidated and individual company statutory accounts levels both in quarterly and full year reporting.
- Supporting the year-end process including liaising with auditors and dealing with audit queries, and management of audit deliverables.
- Production of accounting papers for both auditors and internal stakeholders around key accounting standards and their implementation.
- Oversight of Capital Asset Management for the business, challenging process and procedures around capitalisation & asset recognition.
- Responsible to ensure appropriate capitalisation, working with the Capital Accountant.
- Working with the Transactional Finance team and Group IT to support the understanding of the cash-revenue system, and being the key lead on revenue recognition, including with the auditors.
- Implementation of a more robust Balance Sheet review process across the group ensuring greater scrutiny and challenge on all areas of the balance sheet by challenging processes where appropriate & upskilling where necessary.
- Overall responsibility for the preparation of the Balance Sheet Budget, working with the Treasury Accountant.
- Management and review of the month end reconciliations, raising review points and ensuring actions are resolved, before senior review.
- Adhoc projects around developing financial reporting, process management and controls.
- Developing internal reporting, in line with requirements from the CFO, Executive and Board.
- Supporting with the management of financial risk across the business with input into the financial risk register and reporting on control framework to CFO.
- Supporting with implementation of process improvements recommended by external auditors and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Qualified accountant – ACA / ACCA
- Audit experience from top 10 firm
- Strong technical skills including IFRS and UK GAAP
- Experience of consolidations and year end statutory reporting
- Strong Excel and Word skills
- High standards of accuracy and presentation
- Self-motivated & proactive - Ability to and experience of working to tight deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication skills at all levels
- Ability to work as an individual and part of a team
- Project working
