The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical development of assigned projects, from reviewing customer specifications through to issuing manufacturing documentation and providing technical support during procurement, testing and delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the technical requirements of contractual specifications, applicable standards and mandatory regulations to gain a thorough understanding of customer and project requirements, proactively identifying potential issues, inconsistencies and non-applicable requirements.
- Develop detailed electrical designs in line with assigned priorities, ensuring compliance with company Quality and HSE procedures.
- Design power distribution, control and automation panels using SPAC Automazione software.
- Size and specify cables, protective devices, electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
- Perform thermal dissipation calculations for electrical panels and size the associated ventilation, air conditioning and cooling systems.
- Define electrical and control system architectures in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
- Produce electrical schematics, layouts, block diagrams, interconnection diagrams and cable schedules.
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and identify the appropriate technical part numbers for components.
- Select electrical and automation components, liaising with suppliers and manufacturers where required.
- Work closely with the Purchasing Department to support order management, technical enquiries and supplier follow-ups.
- Monitor the progress of engineering activities across assigned projects, ensuring compliance with contractual deadlines.
- Prepare project technical documentation, including manuals, Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT) procedures, control philosophies and functional documentation.
- Provide technical support during internal testing, customer FATs, commissioning activities and troubleshooting.
- Liaise with customers, inspectors, certification bodies and third parties, including in English.
- Provide technical guidance and support to less experienced members of the engineering team.
- Manage externally subcontracted engineering activities, ensuring:
- Compliance with agreed project schedules;
- Adherence to contractual requirements;
- Quality and accuracy of engineering deliverables.
- Technical diploma in Electrical Engineering, degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience in electrical design for industrial applications, preferably gained within the Oil & Gas sector or a comparable industry.
- Solid experience in designing power distribution, control and automation panels.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles and the sizing and selection of cables, protective devices and electrical components.
- Ability to carry out thermal calculations and cooling system sizing for electrical panels.
- Good working knowledge of SPAC Automazione or equivalent electrical design software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, electrical drawings, control logic diagrams and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Familiarity with key automation and temperature control components, including PLCs, safety relays, transmitters, temperature controllers, temperature sensors, galvanic isolators and surge protection devices.
- Good command of technical English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to work in a project-based engineering environment, meeting deadlines, contractual requirements and quality standards.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, suppliers, customers, inspectors and external certification bodies.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities effectively and adopt a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
Desirable Skills and Experience
The following qualifications and experience would be considered advantageous:
- Knowledge of CEI EN IEC 61439, the standard governing low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies.
- Experience in designing electrical systems for potentially explosive atmospheres, including knowledge of ATEX and IECEx requirements and standards.
- Familiarity with UL, CSA, ABS or equivalent certification requirements and approval processes.
- Experience in designing safety-related circuits and functions in accordance with Safety Integrity Level (SIL) requirements.
- Knowledge of PLC architectures, supervisory control systems, SCR-based power control and industrial communication networks.
- Experience in preparing, coordinating and managing FAT and SAT activities.
- Strong English communication skills, with the confidence to liaise directly with international customers, inspectors and certification bodies.
- Experience in the technical management of international engineering projects.
- Willingness to undertake occasional short business trips for testing activities, technical meetings and visits to customers or suppliers.
Personal Attributes
We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic and results-driven professional who can take ownership of assigned engineering activities while maintaining a clear overview of the wider project.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, reliability and sound organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively and consistently deliver high-quality technical documentation.
A collaborative mindset, a commitment to engineering excellence and a willingness to share knowledge and expertise with colleagues will be essential to success in this role.
