Overview Senior Platform Engineer responsible for the maintenance, enhancement and continual evolution of Vocalink's HPE Nonstop platform estate, Thales payShield HSMs, associated backup solutions and supporting technologies across two critical national payment services.

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as a technical owner for assigned platforms, driving availability, resilience, lifecycle management and continual improvements across Development, Test and Production environments.
  • Resolves complex problems as they arise, providing technical leadership and guidance during investigations, platform changes, upgrades and incidents.
  • Performs user account administration/attestation and implements security improvements/mitigations in-line with corporate standards.
  • Applies Incident, Change, and Problem Management lifecycles in line with ITIL best practice.
  • Supports our Audit & Regulatory Compliance obligations and Risk Management frameworks by providing evidence, escalating potential concerns, identifying and implementing any solutions as necessary.
  • Performs implementation and troubleshooting activities of technical issues, providing updates as needed.
  • Supports testing by performing technical failure/recovery scenarios, non-functional testing and analysing/tuning system capacity and performance.
  • Supports the team's Production out-of-hours 24/7 On-Call Rota.
  • Engagement with vendors to raise defects, manage escalations and obtain third-line support where required.
  • Ensures supporting documentation and artefacts are developed and maintained.

You will also:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in agile teams to devise the appropriate implementation approach or solution.
  • Have autonomy to drive innovation, identify service improvements, and leverage new technologies, including AI capabilities approved within Vocalink, to improve efficiency, reliability and customer outcomes.
  • Learn, adopt and apply Vocalink's Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), participating in planning sessions and tracking/reporting workload progress using enterprise tooling.
  • Operate as a senior technical authority within the team, mentoring colleagues, influencing engineering decisions and promoting engineering best practice.
  • Develop and maintain automation solutions, scripts and tooling to improve operational efficiency and reduce risk.

You will have:

  • Strong understanding of HPE Nonstop-X system architecture, Guardian & OSS environments, and any associated Virtual Tape Backup solution. Including experience of Nonstop subsystems/utilities such as, but not exclusive to; SCF, Pathway, TMF, Measure, Safeguard, TACL, Netbatch.
  • Knowledge of cryptographic technologies, Hardware Security Modules (HSMs) and encryption key management principles.
  • Experience working in Mission Critical environments and knowledge of transaction/payment based services and systems.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organisation skills.
  • A passion for IT Infrastructure, including prior experience of Nonstop-associated applications, systems, programming/scripting languages, supporting and troubleshooting complex production systems within a second and/or third line support model.
  • The ability to solve complex problems that are technical in nature and remain calm under pressure, necessary for supporting Critical National Infrastructure.
  • A desire for continuous personal development through learning and experience, with a progressive attitude and looking to make a positive difference for yourself, the organisation, and our customers.
  • An ethos for working in a team and supporting each other, whilst being proactive in working independently.
  • Demonstrable flexibility and the ability to embrace changes in process, the adoption of new technology and working practices.
  • A good awareness of industry trends, regulatory requirements, emerging technologies and service enhancements.
