The position reports to the UK Director Controller, part of the Europe Regional Controller's group. The position manages a team of 3 accountants that support the MPGS business. The Europe Controllers Group is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the US GAAP financials in partnership with the GBSC (Global Business Service Center), ensuring local statutory reporting compliance as well as providing support to the business teams across a number of areas including accounting and controls. The role will cover controller activities in the UK, including support for Mastercard Payment Gateway Services.
Responsibilities
- Integrity of the Financials – Work with local teams and the GBSC to ensure that the financial statements for their businesses are accurate. This includes both management reporting and statutory filings.
- Business advice – Provide guidance to ensure proper accounting and reporting for transactions, customer deals, expenses and other areas.
- First Line of Defense – Play a critical role in the Risk and Control Framework using ORM methodologies and policy to ensure efficient processes with effective controls.
- Accounting and Internal Controls – Oversee the integrity of the financial records of UK based legal entities in accordance with Mastercard policies in partnership with the GBSC.
- Statutory accounts – Manage the statutory account audits for UK based legal entities on a timely basis and provide quarterly disclosure information to Mastercard Corporate Group.
- Stakeholder relationships – Maintain strong relationships with external parties (auditors and other third parties) and internal stakeholders to assess and communicate key risks and opportunities.
- Management reporting – Manage the preparation of the monthly financial statement monitoring control in preparation for monthly reviews conducted by management.
- Internal controls – Maintain a strong internal control environment and improve controls where necessary to support scalable growth while mitigating risk; ensure continued alignment with Mastercard internal control procedures.
- Documentation – Document financial and business processes throughout the group of companies under scope of responsibility.
- Ad hoc support – Provide support for tax and treasury activities including cash flow forecasts and interim accounts as required.
- Billing and Commercial Finance – Support MPGS billing system maintenance (e.g., customer changes, pricing changes), analyze billing data, review billing adjustments and credits, and help migrate manual billing to automated platforms.
- Process improvement – Identify opportunities for process optimization; coordinate with leadership to implement improvements; resolve billing issues and incidents with Billing and Revenue Optimization teams; ensure billing aligns with contract terms.
- Project management – Enhance accounting processes for entities under scope; participate in efforts to streamline entities and lead projects to improve efficiency and manage change.
- People management – Lead and develop the MPGS finance team to meet the needs of a dynamic, fast-growing business.
All About You
- ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified.
- Experience with US GAAP, IFRS and UK statutory accounting and reporting requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- Finance team management experience.
- Big 4/Big 10 accounting experience and/or outsourced accounting services experience.
- Experience of working as part of a large international organization and liaising with external auditors.
- Experience assessing effectiveness and oversight of operational and financial control implementations.
- Experience leading process improvement initiatives and developing procedures for implementation.
- Strong project management and organizational skills; excellent analytical ability; proficient with Excel.
- Very good communicator; flexible and able to work under tight deadlines; hands-on, proactive; able to work independently and in teams.
- Takes initiative and is results-oriented.
