Masterclass Education is delighted to be working with a wonderful specialist primary school in Portsmouth that provides a supportive and nurturing environment for pupils aged 4–11 with a range of learning difficulties.

The school prides itself on its inclusive ethos, dedicated staff team, and child-centred approach to learning. Every child is valued as an individual, and staff work closely together to help pupils develop their confidence, communication, and independence. This is an excellent opportunity for both experienced Teaching Assistants and individuals who are passionate about supporting children with additional needs and looking to begin a fulfilling career in special education.

The Role

  • Supporting children aged 4–11 with a variety of learning difficulties, including Autism, global developmental delay, and speech and language needs.
  • Assisting the class teacher in delivering fun, engaging, and differentiated lessons that meet each child’s individual learning goals.
  • Providing one-to-one or small group support to help children develop key skills and confidence.
  • Using strategies such as visual supports, sensory play, and communication aids (training provided if needed).
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and self-esteem in every pupil.
  • Supporting children during lessons, playtimes, and transitions throughout the school day.
  • Promoting a caring, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (school or care settings welcome).
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for supporting children with additional needs.

Essential Requirements

  • Passion for helping every child reach their full potential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a supportive team.
  • A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
