Build and grow specialist repairs & refurbishment within a market-leading manufacturer.

Are you a commercially minded technical manager who enjoys working with customers, developing relationships and turning opportunities into profitable projects?

Would you like to take ownership of a well established and growing repairs and refurbishment operation within a highly respected, specialist engineering and security manufacturer?

Our client is a market-leading bespoke manufacturer of anti-terrorism and high-security perimeter protection equipment, supplying specialist solutions to major organisations and high-profile sites.

Such as airports, MOD sites, government buildings, utilities, infrastructure sites, banking, data centres and many more.

They are now looking for a Repairs & Refurbishment Manager to lead a small team of Project Managers and, importantly, help grow the company's repair, refurbishment and lifecycle-service offering.

This is not a new-build installation role.

The focus is on existing equipment, repair programmes, refurbishment projects and developing longer-term customer relationships around the lifecycle of installed assets.

The Opportunity

This is a varied role combining technical understanding, project management, commercial development and customer relationship management.

You will lead a small team responsible for delivering repair and refurbishment projects, while also spending time with customers identifying opportunities to expand the service offering.

You will be expected to understand the customer's requirements, work with internal technical teams to develop solutions, oversee projects through to completion and ensure that opportunities are commercially well managed.

There is significant scope to develop the repairs and refurbishment side of the business further, so this role would suit someone who is comfortable winning work with existing cutomers and developing the relationship and accounts to offer repairs and refurbishment to past installed assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a small team of Project Managers delivering repair and refurbishment projects.
  • Take commercial and operational ownership of the repairs and refurbishment function.
  • Visit existing and prospective customers to understand requirements and identify new opportunities.
  • Develop strong, long-term customer relationships and become a trusted technical/commercial point of contact.
  • Identify opportunities to increase repair, refurbishment and lifecycle-service revenue.
  • Manage projects from initial enquiry through quotation, planning, delivery and completion.
  • Work closely with engineering, technical, manufacturing and operational teams.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, to specification and within agreed commercial parameters.
  • Review project scopes, costs, margins and commercial performance.
  • Provide quotations and support negotiations with customers.
  • Identify opportunities for repeat business and longer-term service relationships.
  • Ensure excellent attention to detail across project documentation, costs, specifications and customer requirements.
  • Resolve technical and commercial issues effectively and professionally.
  • Help shape and develop processes as the repairs and refurbishment business continues to grow.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines technical credibility with strong commercial instincts.

You may currently be a Repairs Manager, Service Manager, Projects Manager, Engineering Manager, Aftermarket Manager or similar — or you may be an experienced Project Manager or Engineer ready to take a more commercially focused leadership position.

You will ideally have experience in a technical, engineered product, manufacturing, construction, security, access, infrastructure, facilities or project-led environment.

More important than having experience of security equipment specifically is your ability to understand technical products, manage projects, communicate confidently with customers and spot commercial opportunities.

You will need

  • Experience managing technical projects, repairs, refurbishment, service or engineering activity.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of project profitability.
  • Excellent customer-facing and relationship-building skills.
  • The confidence to visit customers and develop new opportunities.
  • Strong organisational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • The ability to understand technical requirements and communicate them clearly.
  • Experience managing or mentoring people.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • The ability to balance customer service with commercial objectives.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a market-leading specialist manufacturer where you can make a genuine impact.

You won't simply be managing a repairs department.

You'll have the opportunity to develop and grow an important commercial area of the business, build customer relationships and influence how the company's lifecycle-service offering develops.

The role offers

  • £46,000–£52,000 basic salary (although flexible to reflect experience) OTE circa £10,000+ — uncapped
  • A commercially focused role with genuine scope to grow the business
  • Leadership responsibility for a small Project Management team
  • Significant customer interaction and autonomy
  • The opportunity to work with highly specialist, bespoke engineered products
  • A position within an established and market-leading organisation
  • Crawley-based

If you are commercially driven, technically minded and enjoy developing customer relationships as much as delivering projects, we'd like to hear from you
