The Data Engineer (Power BI Specialist) focuses on the semantic and reporting layer, ensuring that Power BI models and reports are well‑structured, performant, and aligned to upstream curated data sources. The role emphasises clean separation between data processing and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and maintain Power BI datasets, semantic models, and reports.
- Refactor Power BI models to consume curated, upstream data sources.
- Ensure business logic is appropriately implemented upstream rather than embedded in reports.
- Validate report behaviour, measures, and refresh processes following data model changes.
- Perform regression testing and support data reconciliation activities.
- Collaborate with business analysts and data engineers to ensure accurate interpretation of business rules.
- Promote best practices for Power BI model design and governance.
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience with Power BI, including datasets, semantic models, and measures.
- Good understanding of data modelling and relational data concepts.
- Ability to work with SQL‑based data sources.
- Experience supporting reporting in enterprise or public‑sector environments.
- Exposure to AI‑assisted tooling (e.g. Power BI Copilot) is desirable but not essential.
