You’ll create the right environment for cloud and DevOps engineering teams to thrive—enabling self‑organisation, transparency, and continuous improvement—while ensuring the delivery of secure, stable, and scalable cloud platforms supporting critical national infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of AWS cloud, DevOps, and automation projects on time and within budget.
- Lead cross functional teams including cloud engineers, DevOps engineers, architects, developers, service desk engineers, and operations teams.
- Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and outcomes to internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify technical and delivery risks early and implement mitigation strategies.
- Champion Agile delivery practices and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
- Ensure smooth transition from project delivery into live service, including operational readiness and documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of project progress, technical decisions, and delivery outcomes.
- Coordinate complex multi workstream cloud or platform engineering projects involving automation, CI/CD, and infrastructure modernisation.
- Ensure delivery is technically sound, secure, and aligned with AWS best practices and cloud governance standards.
- Support teams in resolving blockers related to AWS infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, automation, and cloud operations.
Essential Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of experience delivering cloud, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering projects in complex environments.
- Strong understanding of AWS services including EC2, Lambda, API Gateway, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation/CDK, and managed database services.
- Familiarity with DevOps tooling and practices including:
- Terraform (IaC)
- Docker and container orchestration (ECS/EKS)
- CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline, Bitbucket)
- Python and Shell scripting
What We Are Looking For
- Ability to manage and build relationships with engineering teams, stakeholders, and third-party suppliers using effective governance mechanisms.
- A delivery focused mindset with the ability to drive outcomes, manage priorities, and maintain momentum across multiple teams.
- Experience working within Central Government or other regulated sectors.
- Strategic thinking with a focus on customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and cloud platform reliability.
Why Join Us?
- We’re a purpose‑driven organisation committed to creating positive impact and championing inclusion.
- You’ll join a culture that encourages innovation, collaboration, and continuous growth.
- We celebrate difference and believe diverse perspectives lead to stronger solutions.
- Even if you don’t meet every requirement, we encourage you to apply — great talent comes from a variety of backgrounds.
- Your lived experience, unique strengths, and personal story matter — they help us design better outcomes for the communities we serve.

- We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to fairness and inclusion for all, regardless of sex, race, religion or belief, ethnic or national origin, disability, age, citizenship, marital or partnership status, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy or related conditions, or any other protected characteristic.
- If you require any reasonable adjustments or additional support during the recruitment process, please let us know.
- Be part of a collaborative and high-performing team.
- Work on innovative projects in the public sector.
