Structural Steel & Staircase Draughtsman Location: Dudley Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 per annum Experience: 5–10+ years Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel & Staircase Draughtsman to join an established manufacturing and fabrication business in Dudley. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing accurate, fabrication-ready 2D and 3D drawings for structural steelwork, architectural metalwork and bespoke staircase projects. Working closely with architects, structural engineers, project managers and workshop teams, you will take projects from initial design concepts through to detailed manufacturing drawings. Key Responsibilities Detailing & 3D Modelling Produce accurate 2D and 3D General Arrangement (GA) drawings. Create detailed fabrication and installation drawings for structural steelwork, secondary steel, bespoke staircases, balustrades and handrails. Ensure all drawings are accurate and suitable for manufacture and installation. Site Surveying Attend site visits to undertake measurements and surveys. Survey steel-framed buildings, staircases and balustrade installations. Use appropriate measuring equipment to obtain accurate site dimensions. Design Coordination Liaise with architects, structural engineers, project managers and workshop fabricators. Identify and resolve design clashes and technical issues. Finalise design specifications ahead of manufacture. Production & Material Information Produce cutting lists, assembly drawings and material schedules. Provide accurate information to support manufacturing and procurement. Compliance & Quality Control Ensure drawings comply with relevant building regulations and structural design requirements. Maintain accurate drawing records and revision control. Ensure all technical documentation is kept up to date. Skills & Experience Required Ideally 5–10+ years' experience in structural steelwork, architectural metalwork or secondary steel detailing. Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, Autodesk Advance Steel or SolidWorks. Ability to interpret complex architectural and structural engineering drawings. Good understanding of structural steel connections and fabrication processes. Experience detailing bespoke staircases, balustrades and handrails. Knowledge of staircase geometry, including riser, going and relevant building regulations. Experience undertaking site surveys and accurate measurements. Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
