Job Description

The HGV Class 2 Hiab Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a heavy goods vehicle equipped with a Hiab crane to deliver roofing supplies to various customer sites. The role demands a high level of professionalism, adherence to safety standards, and excellent time management to ensure timely delivery while maintaining the condition of goods and vehicles.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate a Class 2 heavy goods vehicle fitted with a Hiab crane to load, transport, and unload roofing materials safely and securely.
  • Use Hiab grab equipment to handle roofing supplies accurately and efficiently in accordance with operational procedures.
  • Plan and follow delivery schedules to ensure all customer orders are fulfilled within designated time frames.
  • Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant transport and health and safety regulations, including the correct use of drivers’ hours and tachograph rules.
  • Maintain accurate delivery documentation and complete necessary paperwork, including digital recording of working hours and deliveries.
  • Communicate professionally with customers to confirm delivery details and resolve any queries or issues on site.
  • Uphold company standards for vehicle cleanliness and general upkeep to present a professional image.
  • Work collaboratively with warehouse and logistics teams to support smooth operations.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid HGV Class 2 driving licence.
  • Current Driver Digital Tachograph (Digi) card.
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card.
  • Hiab crane operator licence.

Education

Minimum of GCSEs or equivalent qualification is preferred but not essential.

Experience

At least 12 months’ experience driving an HGV Class 2 vehicle with Hiab grab operation. Proven experience delivering roofing or building supplies is highly advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations related to vehicle operation and manual handling.
  • Ability to operate Hiab crane and grab efficiently and safely.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the West Midlands area.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Clear and professional communication skills when dealing with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

Full-time role requiring flexibility to work early mornings and occasional extended hours depending on delivery schedules. Work involves physical activity, including loading and unloading materials.
