Please note, this is a non-benefited, part-time (20 hours per week), temporary/contract position that includes evening and weekend shifts. Shifts will run M-Th and Sun. between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. during the academic year; M-F with hours available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during Summer and Winter terms.

General Statement of Duties: The Academy seeks a part-time Library Assistant for Access Services, particularly during evening and weekend shifts. This position will assist with circulation, materials processing, shelving and stack maintenance. May be assigned other library support duties as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide Circulation Desk / Service Desk coverage primarily during evening / weekend shifts and answer basic directional / informational questions.
  • Use library catalog software to check-in / check-out / renew library materials.
  • Shelve library materials and perform stack maintenance tasks.
  • Use the library system to assist with processing journals and newly cataloged books and media.
  • Fulfill scanning requests.
  • Pick up, open and route incoming mail.
  • Pull and process circulation “holds” (items requested by other libraries).
  • Assist with maintaining files and collecting and recording library building usage data.
  • Assist patrons with filling out IT Service Desk tickets.
  • Supervise evening shift student workers.
  • Straighten the Service Desk and common areas, as needed.
  • Assist with other library support duties and projects, as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Associates degree
  • One year of library experience or equivalent job experience
  • Computer literacy skills including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (i.e., Google Workspace for Education and/or Microsoft Word & Excel)
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to retrieve and shelve library materials from 3 inches to over 6 feet off the floor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of library experience
  • Experience with Koha, Sirsi Dynix or equivalent ILS
  • Familiarity with OCLC’s WorldCat & FirstSearch systems
  • Proficiency with tutorial software (e.g., Panopto, Scribe, etc.) and graphic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe InDesign, Instagram, etc.)

Salary: $22.00 per hour
