Library Associate – Youth Services, Falmouth Public Library (Falmouth)

The Falmouth Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and innovative full-time Library Associate for Youth Services. This position works 37.5 hours per week, generally 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and is part of a Saturday rotation with some evenings required. The Library Associate for Youth Services works under the direction of the Managing Librarian for Youth Services, assists with Children’s Room staff training as necessary, and oversees the work of the Children’s Room in the absence of the Managing Librarian for Youth Services.

The primary functions of this position are to schedule, plan, conduct, and publicize programs and activities for children from birth to age 12 at the Main Library and at both branches and to act as a liaison to the School Department and other community groups to develop cooperative programs to promote children’s literacy. Other duties include but are not limited to: creating interesting and engaging displays of Library materials, handling general and more complex circulation transactions; answering patron questions and referring complex situations to the Managing Librarian for Youth Services as necessary; and general collection maintenance as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of experience in library or related children’s service work; or any equivalent combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the job.

The successful candidate will be creative, energetic, and flexible and have a positive attitude, a welcoming demeanor, and excellent communication and customer service skills. Familiarity with child development, the principles of early literacy, and children\’s literature preferred. Previous experience providing programs to school-aged children and working in a public library is strongly desired.

Expected Starting Wage Range: Step 1 ($26.64/hour) – Step 4 ($29.97/hour), commensurate with qualifications and experience, with room to annually advance along the 7-step salary table. Comprehensive benefits, , including 13 paid holidays per year; vacation/sick/personal paid time off; Town contribution of up to 75% of the cost of health insurance; cost-effective dental, vision, life insurance, and disability policy plans; enrollment in the defined benefit pension plan; voluntary pre-tax and Roth 457(b) plans; and opportunities for professional development.
