The Chelmsford Public Library is looking for qualified applicants to join our team as a substitute Library Assistant for the Borrower Services Department. We are looking for someone to provide positive, courteous service to the public in a team‑oriented environment to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Working at the Borrower Services desk means:
- Checking materials in and out to patrons
- Organizing patron reserves
- Answering the telephone and directing calls
- Registering new borrowers
- Assisting patrons with the copier
- Assisting patrons in locating materials
- Answering patron questions
- Reserving and distributing museum passes using online software while maintaining the highest level of patron confidentiality
- Maintaining proper order in the collection by reading shelves
- Performing other duties as requested

Qualifications:
- Library circulation experience
- A four‑year college degree is preferred
- Familiarity with SirsiDynix Symphony ILS is a plus
- Ability to adapt smoothly to patron demands
- Enjoy interacting with people of all ages
- Ability to lift 35 lbs. with or without assistance
- Ability to push a cart full of library materials
- Ability to bend, reach and stand for extended periods of time
