Job Summary: Surgical Tech II - Full Time. Highlights of the Surgical Tech Role:

  • All shifts available – days, evenings, nights, 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts.

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons’ assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

Essential Functions:

  • Participates in time-out procedures.
  • Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Sets up equipment independently.
  • Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
  • Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
  • Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
  • Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Licenses and Credentials: Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) - preferred.
  • Work Experience: Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting – 2-3 years - required; Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience – 3-5 years - preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room; Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment; Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies; Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
