Join Mass General Brigham as a Medical Assistant to support healthcare teams at Patriot Pediatrics. You will assist with both clinical and non‑clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.
- Assisting junior Medical Assistants with day‑to‑day questions and responsibilities, and helping facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
- Showing patients to examination rooms, preparing necessary equipment, and interviewing patients for medical information; measuring vital signs, weight, and height, and recording data in the patient’s medical record.
- Explaining treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
- Performing general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms; acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
- Collecting blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logging them, and preparing them for testing; performing phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
- Maintaining inventory of immunizations and checking expiration dates.
- Providing immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
- Improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
Licenses and Credentials: BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) – Various issuers preferred. Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) – Various issuers preferred.
Experience: Direct Medical Assistant experience or medical field work 1–2 years required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in complex and busy environments.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Compliance with all local, state, and federal privacy and confidentiality rules and regulations.
- Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples and other specimens.
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Managing one’s own time and the time of others.
