Warehouse Assistant – Entry-Level Role in Distribution Centre

Job Summary

Houston Skilled Consultancy is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Warehouse Assistant to join our growing team at a busy distribution centre. This is an entry-level position ideal for individuals eager to begin a career in warehouse operations. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods through the warehouse, from receiving and storing stock to picking and preparing items for dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with unloading incoming shipments and verify contents against delivery documents

• Sort, label, and store items correctly in designated warehouse locations

• Pick, pack, and prepare orders for shipping according to standard procedures

• Ensure work areas are clean, organized, and hazard-free

• Carry out routine inventory checks and report discrepancies

• Operate basic warehouse equipment such as trolleys and hand-held scanners

• Follow health and safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment

• Support other warehouse duties as required by supervisors or managers

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

• Basic understanding of warehouse or stockroom functions

• Good communication and time-management skills

• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently

• Comfortable standing for long periods and performing physically active tasks

• Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in picking and packing

Experience

• No prior warehouse experience required – full training will be provided

• Previous experience in logistics, stock handling, or retail is a plus but not mandatory

Working Hours

• Flexible shift patterns: Day, Evening, Night, or Weekend shifts available

• Typical shifts range between 6 to 8 hours

• Overtime may be available during peak periods

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Familiarity with basic computer systems or handheld scanning devices

• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technologies

• Strong work ethic and commitment to productivity targets

• Capability to lift and move items of moderate weight safely
