Job Description Purpose for the role: To ensure safe, high-quality and environmentally compliant development and operation of BESS projects. To provide comprehensive QHSE guidance and support (technical and managerial) across the entire project lifecycle, from initial development to ongoing operations. Help to mitigate Global Offshore Wind & UK liabilities for UK and international asset portfolio. Contribution to the Global Offshore Wind & UK strategy and annual objectives: Ensure Global Offshore Wind & UK scope is delivered in alignment with MASDAR QHSE policies, practices and procedures, through ongoing collaboration, provide relevant guidance and advice. Be open to engage with a blank canvas and lead the development and implementation of a best-in-class Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems and the culture that enables it for Battery Storage organization, this includes, within reasonable timeline, implementation of ISO 45001, ISO14001 and ISO 9001. Key Responsibilities: Ensuring QHSE compliance with best practice and legal requirements including legal and risk registers, and CDM. Preparation of QHSE reports and presentation at various levels. Leading qualification of suppliers and contractors, undertaking QHSE DD audits, risk assessments, review of EPC HSE and applicable plans. Establishing and managing QHSE framework service agreements with applicable suppliers. Ensuring QHSE legal clauses and technical requirements in various documents (EPC, O&M, Equipment Supply) are relevant, thorough and up-to-date, particularly Quality Assurance Agreements (QAA), Customer Quality Requirements (CQR) and Construction Design and Management QHSE (CDM) Carry out Site Inspections of projects under construction and organizing external audits. Organize and coordinate quality control during applicable development and construction cycles: manufacturing, pre-shipment, sampling and laboratory tests, inspections, supply chain audits. Ensuring (and assist when required) that QHSE incident and accident investigations are carried out and completed in thorough and diligent manner. Preparation of Non-conformance Reports (NCR) with corrective action request and solution proposals where possible, follow-up on corrective actions, manage claim data evaluation and reporting. Run workshops and QHSE reviews with suppliers, contractors, and development partners, reviewing monthly Development partners and Project BESS reports. Plan and review the identification of QHSE training needs and direct training programs (training matrix) and ensure BESS employees’ training is kept up to date. Establish annual QHSE objectives and targets, review annual KPIs with management teams Support QHSE budget preparation at department and project level and, monitor spend. Drive continuous improvement of the QHSE Management System. Ensure periodic review of the QHSE Policy and supporting management system documents. Support development of QHSE risk management standards and maintain QHSE Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM). Plan and direct hazard identification, risk assessments, and assurance reviews of new projects relating to QHSE requirements (e.g., HSEIA, HAZOP, HAZID, HAZAN, QRA, Fire Detection & Protection Systems, pre-start-up safety reviews, MoC, etc.). Facilitate QHSE Committee meetings and manage action completion. Plan, supervise and coordinate major audits and inspections to ensure compliance with QHSE standards and reports on potential consequences of faults Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor\’s degree in a QHSE discipline (such as Environmental Science, Safety Engineering) or a closely related field. Electrical engineer is in advantage. NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or equivalent qualification (highly desirable). IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent health and safety qualification (highly desirable). Trained for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001. IOSH Chartered Membership or other similar recognized international QHSE organization is an advantage Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a QHSE role within the renewable energy sector, preferably with a focus on battery storage technology. Proven track record of developing, implementing, and maintaining effective QHSE management systems. Demonstrated ability to identify, assess, and mitigate QHSE risks associated with BESS projects. Experience conducting QHSE audits and inspections within a project environment. Excellent understanding of relevant UK HSE legislation and regulations pertaining to BESS projects. Strong knowledge of international QHSE standards and best practices related to BESS technology (advantageous). Experience working in a multi-cultural and geographically diverse environment (advantageous). QHSE management and Six Sigma in a large organization as well as in EPCI work environment Job-Specific Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Ability to facilitate knowledge transfer down to the field management. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, specifically managing digitalisation and data analytics. Proactive and results-oriented approach. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant QHSE software (e.g., environmental management systems software).
