About MASAJ
We’re growing MASAJ, and we’re building the team to do it properly. MASAJ is a London-based massage brand focused on delivering exceptional Guest experiences while creating meaningful, sustainable opportunities for the best Bodyworkers in the city. As we scale our team and Studio numbers, we’re investing in the people, systems and standards that will support that growth.
The Role
We’re looking for a People Operations Manager who is as comfortable being in our Studios as they are stepping back to build what comes next. This is a hands-on, dynamic role that sits at the intersection of people, performance and operations. You’ll spend time close to the day-to-day, building relationships and understanding how things really work, while also helping us design and scale our Bodyworker operations. This is not a traditional HR role. It’s operational, fast-moving, and embedded in the reality of a multi-site, freelance-led environment. The salary range for this role commences at £40,000 p/a.
What You’ll Do
- Spend regular time in our Studios, building context, relationships and trust with Hosts and Bodyworkers
- Step back to design and improve how we operate, using insight from the ground
- Collaborate with the Bodyworker Performance team to ensure Therapists are delivering strongly both in-treatment and as part of the wider business
- Own and evolve the Bodyworker lifecycle: onboarding, engagement and retention
- Manage compliance and risk effectively, ensuring alignment with employment status regulations and consulting with external experts where necessary
- Work within a multi-site, freelance-heavy model, balancing flexibility with consistency
- Support Studio teams with people challenges, both in real time and through the creation of better systems
- Build simple, scalable approaches to performance tracking, feedback and development
- Partner with Operations and Guest Experience teams to ensure people performance drives Guest outcomes
- Design, build and iterate scalable systems, reducing manual work and improving clarity
- Identify gaps early and build solutions, not just highlight problems
What We’re Looking For
- Comfortable moving between on-the-ground and strategic work without losing momentum in either
- Experience managing relationships with freelancers, shift-based teams, or multi-location environments
- Strong operator who spots patterns quickly and turns them into better ways of working
- Tech-comfortable and curious, with a good instinct for when to lean into tools or AI
- Commercially aware, with a clear understanding that people performance drives business performance
- Clear communicator who builds trust across Bodyworkers and Leadership
- Highly organised and process-driven
- Motivated by growth and excited by the opportunity to take on more responsibility as the business scales
Why This Role Is Different
You’ll be both in the detail and shaping the bigger picture. You’ll work within a flexible, freelance-led model rather than a traditional structure. You’ll be expected to build and evolve systems, not just maintain them. You’ll join at a stage where you can genuinely influence how the business grows.
Growth & Progression
This is a management role with a clear path into a leadership position. As MASAJ scales, this role will likely evolve into a more senior position shaping how we attract, develop and retain talent across our fast-growing Studio portfolio. There will be an opportunity to build and lead a team, and to play a key role in defining our long-term people strategy.
Location & Working Style
This role is based in London and will involve time spent across our Studios, alongside focused time working on systems, projects and planning. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable operating in a dynamic environment, where no two weeks look exactly the same.
What It’s Like to Work at MASAJ
Fast-growing, ambitious environment. High standards, low ego. Deep focus on people and experience. Opportunity to shape how a category-defining brand operates.
Perks & Benefits
Competitive salary. 28 days holiday (including bank holidays), increasing with tenure. Heavily discounted massage treatments across all MASAJ Studios. Friends + Family discounts. Snacks and drinks in the office and at the Studios. Socials and events including drinks, meals, and wellness-focused opportunities for team connection (e.g. sound baths, wellness classes, workshops). Clear progression opportunities as the business scales. Work across beautifully designed Studios in London as part of a flexible working environment. Close collaboration with an ambitious, values-led team.
