Salaried Gp in Wigton

We have another opportunity for a highly motivated and compassionate GP to join our team of twelve GPs (four Partners and eight Salaried GPs) working in a salaried role on either a full time or part time basis. We will offer up to £11,000 per clinical session (per annum) based on experience. This role will be based at Alneburgh House, Ewanrigg Road, Maryport where we run an 'Outstanding' CQC rated GMS Practice.

The successful GP will be working as part of a large multi-disciplinary team consisting of GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Paediatric Nurse, Paramedic Practitioners, Physiotherapists, Pharmacist, Social Prescribers, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants. The Practice is committed to innovative approaches in the delivery of patient care offering many specialist services and we pride ourselves on learning and supporting each other and sharing best practice both for patient care and personal development. The Practice uses EMIS Web and is consistently excellent in QOF performance and other DES and LES targets. We actively encourage colleagues to follow shared interests in delivering the best outcomes for patient care such as GP Training, Mental Health, Paediatrics or any other speciality of Primary Care.

Main duties of the job

• To work as an autonomous practitioner, responsible for the provision of medical services to the practice population, delivering an excellent standard of clinical care whilst complying with the GMS contract.
• Adhere to the GMC standards for good medical practice, contributing to the effective management of the practice, leading by example, maintaining a positive, collaborative working relationship with the multidisciplinary team.
• The working week will include a variety of clinical sessions with pre-bookable appointment clinics, Duty Doctor sessions, Home Visiting sessions and Triager sessions.
• Provide a full range of medical services as defined in the core GMC contract, additional, and enhanced services contracts along with agreed non-NHS work (medicals, reports etc.).
• Undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, and dealing with correspondence in a timely fashion.
• Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
• Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
• Develop care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols including providing health education.
• Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to a high standard.
• Complete referrals where appropriate including for any suggested diagnostic testing and report on results to patients as required.
• Prescribe in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary.
• Attend team meetings and other clinical meetings as necessary.
• Provide clinical support for colleagues including assisting with the mentoring and training of colleagues as part of the Practice's commitment to lifelong-learning.
• Comply with all relevant organisation policies and procedures including but not limited to confidentiality, data protection, health & safety, infection control etc.
• Undertake mandatory training as determined by the Practice.
• Reflect on personal practice through SEA, appraisals and patient complaints.

About us

The successful candidate will join a team of over 70 staff members, who all work to support each other and deliver the best possible service to the patients. We serve a practice population of approximately 14,000 patients covering a rural/urban footprint in West Cumbria along the Solway coastline and touching the edge of the Lake District. The role is also open to those who are newly qualified/or qualifying.

Upon starting, the successful candidate will receive an induction to allow for time to observe and learn about how the Practice works as well as the opportunity to meet colleagues and learn about their roles.

Person Specification

Experience

• Essential: Understanding of the challenges and wider issues of health and social needs within the Primary Care setting; Demonstrate an understanding of health education, promotion and public health.
• Desirable: Experience of working in a GP Practice.

Qualifications

• Essential: MBChB; MRCGP; General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT); Full GMC Registration; Must possess the right to work in the UK and be on the NHS Performer's List; Evidence of continuous professional development.
• Desirable: Experience of working in Primary Care (Post Qualification experience not essential).

Personal Qualities

• Essential: Positive attitude; self-motivated and able to motivate others; Willingness to learn new skills; Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.

Knowledge and Skills

• Essential: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written & oral); Clinical knowledge and skills commensurate with that of a GP; Strong IT skills; Effective time management (planning and organisation); Problem solving; Experience with audits; Ability to follow clinical guidelines, policies and procedures; Experience with clinical risk management.
• Desirable: Proficient user of EMIS Web; Willingness to contribute to and participate in a peer support group, including offering support within the clinical team.
