This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Engineering and Construction. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

LOCATION OF POSITION: 301 Cemetery Avenue, Cambridge, MD
Main Purpose of Job: The purpose of this position is to supervise, oversee, and manage the operations of the Technical Services within the Engineering and Construction Unit. The Technical Services provides the topographic and hydrographic surveys required for the design and construction of Waterway Improvement, Capital Development, Critical Maintenance, park and marine design projects and other special projects. Topographic projects include surveying for maintenance of park roads and buildings, and new construction in park facilities. This position is also responsible for the monitoring of the dunes in Ocean City and Assateague Island. Hydrographic projects include surveys for channel maintenance, channel stake out (for dredging projects), post-dredge and new construction such as piers and boat ramps. This position supervises four technical professionals.
Position Duties: The Department of Natural Resources, Engineering & Construction Unit, Annapolis, Maryland, is currently accepting applications for an Agency Project Architect/Engineer Supervisor under direction of the Associate Director of Technical Services. This group handles emergency repairs resulting from natural and man-made disasters, as well as other unforeseen emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: Eight years of experience, four years as a design and project manager Engineer, Architect, or Surveyor for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects and an additional four years of experience as an Engineer, Architect, or Surveyor in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute possession of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university and four years of experience as a design and project manager Engineer or Architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications:
- Four years of supervisory experience for a staff of at least five people with duties such as scheduling, conflict resolution, leave and time sheet approval, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions etc.
- Candidate should have a broad knowledge of all types of construction including building construction, code compliance, inspection repairs, cost estimating, utility construction and repairs and site construction and repairs.
- Candidate should have good organizational skills to prioritise multiple projects, organise multiple tasks and maintain multiple project files.
- Candidate should have good communication skills to convey written and verbal direction and communication to contractors, inspectors, facility managers and other interested individuals.
- Candidate must be able to develop and prepare written specifications that are clear and concise for others to follow.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications: Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
