Job Description:
Main Purpose of Job
To direct, lead, control, evaluate, monitor, and supervise the duties of subordinates within the Latent Prints/Impressions Unit at the Berlin Lab. Perform all latent prints duties of the Forensic Scientist position and complete administrative duties as required.
Position Duties
- Supervises the operation of the Latent Prints/Impressions Unit at the Berlin Lab
- Analyzes forensic casework involving latent print evidence, including comparison and development, and provides courtroom testimony as an expert witness
- Performs or is responsible for administrative duties of the Latent Prints/Impressions Unit at the Berlin Lab
- Keeps abreast of new technical and scientific developments
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, genetics, medical technology, pharmaceutical science, or related physical, natural, or forensic science from an accredited college or university.
- Experience: Five years in comparative analysis or scientific evaluation of evidence, including experience providing testimony as an expert witness in court.
Notes:
- Additional experience performing similar work can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience at another accredited crime laboratory can substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- A Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
- A Doctorate degree can substitute for two years of experience.
Selective Qualifications
Experience in latent print impressions, courtroom testimony as an expert witness, and related forensic work.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory
- Experience as a Technical Assessor for ANAB, A2LA, or similar
- Expert witness experience in Daubert or Frye-Reed proceedings
- Leadership experience in a forensic setting
- IAI Certification
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
- Motor vehicle operation license valid in Maryland if required.
- Relevant forensic discipline certification or license as mandated.

- Availability 24/7 with a reachable phone number.
- Subject to random drug testing and background checks, including polygraph.
