You’ll be awake and alert throughout the night, ensuring the wellbeing, dignity, and independence of the people we support, and responding promptly to any needs that arise.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide attentive overnight support, including wellbeing checks, reassurance, and assistance with personal care in line with individual care plans.
  • Monitor and record observations accurately (sleep patterns, incidents, health concerns), escalating any risks or changes as required.
  • Administer and record medication in accordance with policies and training (where applicable).
  • Maintain a safe, calm environment: conduct regular health and safety checks, follow safeguarding procedures, and manage incidents professionally.
  • Support with bedtime and morning routines, including personal care, mobility, hydration, and nutrition.
  • Communicate effectively with day staff through clear handovers and accurate documentation.
  • Uphold privacy, dignity, choice, and independence at all times, promoting a person-led approach.
  • Perform light housekeeping tasks to ensure cleanliness and infection control standards are maintained.
  • Follow organizational policies, care plans, risk assessments, and regulatory standards.

About you

  • Empathetic, patient, and dependable, with a calm approach to unexpected situations.
  • Able to remain awake and focused for the full shift and conduct regular checks.
  • Strong communication and record-keeping skills with good attention to detail.
  • Comfortable with personal care and supporting people with varying needs (e.g., learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, dementia), depending on service.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, infection control, and professional boundaries.
  • Team player who can also work independently and make sound judgments overnight.

Requirements

  • Experience in care or support work is desirable but not essential; full training provided.
  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care (or working towards) is an advantage.
  • Right to work in the UK; satisfactory enhanced DBS check.
  • Willingness to work waking night shifts, weekends, and bank holidays on a rota.
  • Up-to-date training or willingness to complete training in First Aid, Medication, Moving & Handling, and Safeguarding.

What we offer

  • Competitive hourly rate with enhanced pay for nights/weekends/bank holidays.
  • Paid training, induction, and ongoing professional development.
  • Employee assistance programme and wellbeing support.
  • Pension scheme and holiday entitlement (pro rata).
