As a Deli Counter Assistant, your main responsibility is to deliver great customer service while preparing and serving a variety of fresh food items. You'll help maintain a clean, well-organised workspace and follow food safety standards to ensure quality and safety at all times.
Your key priorities and duties will be:
- Provide excellent customer service by engaging with and assisting customers in a friendly and professional manner
- Maintain strong product knowledge to effectively answer customer queries and offer recommendations
- Ensure proper stock rotation and adherence to food safety standards
- Operate meat slicing equipment (for employees aged 18 and over) following all safety procedures
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, and working stock and deliveries
- Accurately pack and label pies, curries, and other prepared food items for sale
- Preparing and serving drinks, including a variety of hot and cold beverages
- Processing payments using the till system, handling both cash and card transactions
- Assisting with the opening and closing procedures of the counter and shop as needed
- Housekeeping, making sure workstations and back of house areas are clean throughout the day
- Dealing with customer complaints in a professional manner, directing to a manager if needed
- Providing support in other areas of the business, as required by the management team
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in retail would be advantageous but not essential
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure
- A passion for quality food and a commitment to maintaining high standards
- The ability to work excellently as part of a team with your colleagues
