The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced People & Culture Manager to join our leadership team in a standalone capacity supporting circa 180 colleagues. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this is a pivotal role for a commercially minded HR professional who can confidently operate at both executive and operational levels across a diverse, multi‑site business. As the organisation's People & Culture lead, you will act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, partnering on business strategy, organisational development, employee engagement and leadership capability. At the same time, you will remain hands‑on in the day‑to‑day delivery of HR operations, ensuring a first‑class people experience across the entire employee lifecycle. Key Responsibilities
- Act as the trusted People & Culture partner to the Managing Director and Leadership Team.
- Develop and deliver people strategies that align with business objectives, growth plans and operational requirements.
- Support and coach managers to build leadership capability, drive performance and manage their people effectively.
- Lead all employee relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary, grievance and absence management processes.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, from attraction and onboarding through to development, retention and exit.
- Partner with stakeholders across multiple sites to ensure consistency, engagement and best practice.
- Champion employee engagement, wellbeing and culture initiatives across the Group.
- Review, develop and implement HR policies, procedures and people‑focused initiatives.
- Lead organisational change projects and support workforce planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with UK employment legislation and HR best practice.
- Act as the subject matter expert for HR systems, driving process improvements, reporting capability and data integrity across the business.
- Utilise people data and insights to support decision‑making and continuous improvement.
- Oversee all HR administration and ensure efficient delivery of people processes.
About You
You are a confident, credible and commercially aware HR professional who enjoys working autonomously and influencing at every level of an organisation. You'll bring:
- Proven experience within a Senior HR Business Partner, People Partner, HR Manager or similar standalone HR role.
- Experience supporting multi‑site operations within wholesale, hospitality, retail, leisure, distribution or other fast‑paced environments.
- The ability to operate strategically with senior leaders while remaining hands‑on and operational when required.
- Strong employee relations experience and comprehensive knowledge of UK employment law.
- Excellent stakeholder management, coaching and influencing skills.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with strong commercial acumen.
- Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong HR systems experience, ideally with exposure to Workforce or platforms such as Employment Hero, PeopleHR or similar.
- A passion for using technology, data and reporting to improve people processes and business performance.
- CIPD Level 5 or above (or equivalent experience) would be advantageous.
