An Opportunity to work in an 'OFSTED Rated Outstanding' Residential Childcare Team!

We are looking for dedicated childcare staff to work in our residential houses with our amazing young people, term time only, 8 hour shifts. We have full-time, part-time and casual/bank hours available.

About Us:

Mary Hare educates profoundly deaf children at its residential school in Berkshire, and we pride ourselves on our pupils’ achievements at GCSE, A Level as well as B Tech and Vocational Courses. We offer the opportunity to teach highly motivated children, in small classes, where you can make a real difference at this national centre of excellence for deaf education. No knowledge of sign language is required, as we follow an auditory/oral philosophy.

The school offers a holistic approach to care, and this involves carrying schoolwork into out-of-school life. This involves communication with all professionals that work within both the senior and primary schools. These can be teachers, classroom assistants, audiologists, nurses, speech therapists and specialists from cochlear implant teams, social workers etc. but most importantly care staff will have a good communication link with parents, especially those of their key children.

The Role:

We are seeking energetic, dynamic and enthusiastic people who are looking to develop their career in working with young people within a residential special school. Our children and young people enjoy being supported by a team of adults who bring with them unique hobbies and interests and who have an enabling approach which encourages and supports them while away from their homes. You will form relationships with both staff and children across the school and will become an integral part of the residential service as a whole. Our residential houses differ from the environment and structure of a residential children’s home, we have a beautiful setting which enables use of the outdoors, onsite farm, youth club, football and tennis pitches / courts. Staffing ratios reflect the needs of the children in place.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be a stable and safe adult and a role model of excellent behaviour
  • To lead and participate in activities after school, in the evening and at weekends, promoting social communication and interaction on the school site and in the community.
  • Have an open, fun and mature approach to life
  • To provide care and support for pupils with assistance and mobility, communication and social interaction
  • To liaise, in conjunction with the staff team, with the school SENDCO, Learning Support Assistants, Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist to identify and support the writing of personal care plans and procedures.
  • To oversee the physical and emotional care of the pupils, including but not limited to, consideration of pupil’s health, diet, clothing, hygiene, safety, and emotional welfare.

Residential staff work together to maintain an environment which is safe, secure, stimulating and which supports their learning both in education and in social development. Staff also prepare young people for the next stage in their lives, whether that is a change of residential house or leaving school. Residential staff undertake shift, sleep in duties and weekend work. Extra payment is made for sleeping-in duties and overtime.

Are you someone who is fun to be around, who can role model, who can use their initiative to inspire and motivate? Are you someone who understands that it is a privilege to work with children and who is ready to create wonderful memories that they will take with them into their futures? If so then we would like to hear from you.

Benefits:

As well as an inclusive and supportive work environment, and a stunning location, benefits also include: school holidays/term time only working, free meals whilst at work, free on-site parking, generous pension scheme and 24/7 Employee Assistance Program.
