About Us:
Mary Hare School is an established, pioneering national education provider for profoundly deaf children, aged 5-19 years of age. We pride ourselves on our pupils’ academic achievements at GCSE, A Level and in Technical and Vocational Courses as well as their holistic development and empowering them to achieve their ambitions. The school ethos is based on an auditory oral communication approach which means that pupils at Mary Hare School learn through listening and speaking.
The school is a 37-week provision with many pupils placed residentially due to the distance from their house prohibiting daily commute. Our vision is to secure the future of deaf children and young people by providing an empowering and aspirational environment for them to learn and develop enduring friendships within our centre of excellence for deaf education.
Residential care is provided across 5 houses, all of which promote a homely environment where children can receive nurture and support from a team of adults whose focus is on promoting structured, predictable routines which are safe and confidence-enabling for the children and young people. A relational approach with parents, families and carers is at our core and we work cohesively with the wider school community to ensure a holistic and pastoral approach is delivered to the highest standards. We are proud of our staff retention and across the homes the average length of service exceeds 8 years, rising to 15 years. We are equally proud of our culture which is welcoming, supportive and professional and our values are embedded in the daily lives of everyone at Mary Hare.

This will be achieved by coaching and mentoring team members to ensure that they facilitate their physical, social, psychological, and emotional development through the application of Mary Hare Residential Care Model and practice interventions, the Residential Special School standards (NMS) and all relevant guidance pertaining to the children’s houses quality standards (2015).
