Are you an experienced Design Engineer with strong Solid Works skills looking to join a well-established and growing manufacturing business?
Our client is seeking a hands-on Design Engineer / Design Manager to play a key role within their engineering team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects from initial concept through to manufacture and is passionate about delivering practical engineering solutions.
This role would suit someone from a manufacturing, fabrication, sheet metal, mechanical engineering or industrial engineering background who is confident working closely with both customers and the production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Solid Works.
- Design fabricated and sheet metal components and assemblies.
- Carry out site surveys and reverse engineer existing products where required.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and the workshop throughout each project.
- Produce bills of materials (BOMs) and manufacturing documentation.
- Support projects from initial enquiry through to manufacture and installation.
- Mentor and support a junior member of the design team in developing their Solid Works capability.
- Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture.
What We're Looking For
- Strong commercial experience using Solid Works.
- Previous experience within manufacturing, fabrication or mechanical engineering.
- Ability to produce accurate manufacturing and fabrication drawings.
- Experience working with sheet metal, welded fabrications or mechanical assemblies.
- Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM).
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Auto CAD experience.
- Experience carrying out site surveys.
- Knowledge of laser cutting, folding, machining or fabrication processes.
- Previous project management or team leadership experience.
