We are seeking an experienced Practice Nurse to contribute to our commitment to delivering outstanding primary health care to our patient population. As a Nurse Practitioner at Martlesham Heath Surgery, you will provide autonomous, patient-centred care within a busy and supportive primary care environment. The role involves managing a varied clinical workload, making safe and effective clinical decisions, and working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver responsive care to our patient population. Job responsibilities
- Assessing, diagnosing, managing patients presenting with acute illness, minor injury, and long-term conditions
- Providing first-contact care, including same-day and urgent appointments
- Prescribing medication and reviewing treatment plans in line with clinical guidelines and your scope of practice
- Undertaking clinical examinations and making appropriate referrals to secondary care or other services when required
- Managing patients with chronic disease, including supporting reviews and ongoing care planning
- Providing health promotion, screening, and preventative care advice to patients
- Supporting the safe management of patients through triage, both by telephone and face-to-face consultations
- Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, including blood tests, ECGs, and other investigations relevant to primary care
- Maintaining accurate, timely, and legally compliant clinical records
- Working collaboratively with GPs, nurses, healthcare assistants, and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Contributing to clinical governance, audits, and quality improvement initiatives within the practice
- Supporting junior staff, students, or new team members where appropriate
- Recognising and responding appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with NHS and local policies
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current and valid NMC registration (Adult Nurse or equivalent field of practice)
- Evidence of post-registration clinical education relevant to primary care or advanced clinical practice
- Non-Medical Prescribing qualification (Independent Prescriber status) and recorded on the NMC register
- Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with NMC requirements
- Clinical qualification or training in relevant primary care skills (e.g. assessment, minor illness, long-term conditions management)
- Minor Illness / Minor Injuries qualification or equivalent primary care training
- Training in chronic disease management (e.g. diabetes, respiratory, cardiovascular disease)
- Qualification or formal training in cervical cytology (smear taking)
- Qualification or training in spirometry interpretation and delivery
- Evidence of training in clinical leadership, mentorship, or supervision of learners
- Additional relevant postgraduate modules in primary care, urgent care, or advanced assessment skills
