Our client is a small Mayfair based Investment boutique specialising in multi-asset investment strategies across Global Macro Investment Strategies. The investment approach is research-driven and conviction-led, combining macroeconomic insight with disciplined risk management and operational excellence.
The firm is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Portfolio Manager to join its investment team in London. This is a senior appointment offering significant responsibility across portfolio construction, active trading, risk management, operational oversight, and strategic development.
The successful candidate will combine strong market judgement with technical expertise and a proven ability to identify, analyse, and resolve trading and operational issues within a dynamic investment environment. Collaboration is central to the culture. The role would suit an individual who values teamwork, shared ideas, and collective success rather than purely individual performance.
Please note that the role is London based, but there is also a chance that the role could move to either the US, or even Dubai, so our client is looking for someone who has that flexibility to potentially relocate in the future. In addition, our client operates a mainly 5-days per week policy in the office, with some working-from-home.
Key Responsibilities- Generate high-conviction investment ideas across multiple asset classes including Cash Equities, Fixed Income, Foreign exchange, derivatives, and macro instruments.
- Manage day-to-day trading activity, ensuring accurate and timely execution in line with investment mandates.
- Monitor global markets, macroeconomic developments, and geopolitical events to identify investment opportunities and risks.
- Proactively identify and resolve trade-related issues, including pricing discrepancies, allocation errors, and settlement breaks.
- Contribute to portfolio construction, rebalancing decisions, and risk-adjusted return optimisation.
- Monitor portfolio risk exposures and contribute to the firm's risk management framework.
- Escalate material risks, concentration issues, and stress scenarios to senior stakeholders.
- Support stress testing, scenario analysis, and drawdown assessments.
- Lead the implementation of AI and machine learning solutions across investment, trading, and operational functions.
- Act as a key stakeholder for technology initiatives, translating business requirements into clear technical specifications.
- Identify opportunities where technology can enhance investment decision-making, operational efficiency, and risk management.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors, data providers, and external partners.
- Support the adoption of new systems through training, change management, and post-implementation review.
- Remain informed on developments in financial technology, AI applications, and data infrastructure.
- Review and enhance trading systems, workflows, and operational processes.
- Identify inefficiencies and recommend improvements to increase robustness, speed, and accuracy.
- Produce clear analysis and recommendations for senior management.
- Contribute to the development of trading processes, risk practices, and operational frameworks.
- Participate in broader discussions relating to investment strategy and business development.
- Liaise effectively with investment, operations, compliance, and external counterparties.
- Support investor reporting, due diligence exercises, and other strategic initiatives where required.
- 8–10+ years' experience within portfolio management, trading, or investment roles within Asset Management, Hedge Funds, or Proprietary Trading environments.
- Demonstrable track record of generating and managing investment ideas across multiple asset classes.
- Strong understanding of trade lifecycle management and the ability to identify and resolve trading or operational issues.
- Deep knowledge of market structure, execution practices, and investment risk management.
- Experience implementing technology, AI, or data-driven solutions within investment environments.
- Exposure to investment systems including OMS/ EMS platforms, risk systems, and portfolio analytics tools.
- Familiarity with modern data infrastructure and workflow automation technologies.
- Experience with LLMs, AI workflows, or financial research automation would be advantageous.
- Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- CFA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify inconsistencies or risks quickly.
- Commercial and technically minded, with the ability to work effectively across investment and technology teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to manage projects and drive change initiatives.
