Martis Search is representing a London-based global Physical Metals Trading company to hire a permanent Junior Accountant. Our client is looking for an Accountant who is either a Newly-Qualified or Part-Qualified ACCA or CIMA Accountant with 1-4 years of Finance & Accounting experience (ideally in Financial Services) who wants to join a busy Finance department supporting global Physical Metal Traders and learn the job with hands-on training from their Financial Controller.

This is an urgent requirement, and our client prefers someone on a short notice period (no 3-month notice periods). After a few months, the role will likely switch to a permanent position once you have learned the role and proven yourself. This role reports to the Financial Controller, who will provide mentorship.

This is an Accounting Operations role/Management Accounting that requires you to roll up your sleeves every day. There is also a lot of project work to complete in time, as the processes are fairly manual.

The role will initially be 4 days per week in their London office. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for:

  • The month-end closing process for each entity
  • Production of the monthly management accounts
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Monthly balance sheet substantiation and review
  • Monthly and quarterly performance reporting and analyses within their Metals Business

In addition to operating within their core Finance function, there will be significant exposure to the wider Finance and business departments, including Trading, Product Control, and Shipping.

Client Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year in a Finance & Accounting role
  • Part-qualified/newly qualified QBE finance professional with a background in a busy professional organisation
  • Experience within financial services or a Physical commodities business is desirable but not essential
  • Highly proficient analytical and numerical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Able to deal confidently with colleagues and external counterparties
  • Highly adaptable, curious, and interested in understanding all aspects of the business
  • Knowledge and experience of physical and derivatives trading is desirable but not essential
  • Strong hands-on systems skills encompassing intermediate-advanced MS Excel, MS Office
  • Knowledge of Brady/Quor Fintrade or other CTRM systems would be a benefit
  • Excellent team player
  • Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a regulated environment

Salary: Daily-rate equivalent of between £40,000 pa - £65,000 pa (dependent upon experience).
