Senior Finance Reconciliations, Data Analytics & Automation Manager - Global Markets (VP Level to become a Director)
Global Investment Bank / Financial Markets Trading & Brokerage Group
Product Control | Finance Change | Reconciliation Development | EUC | Finance Automation | Balance Sheet Substantiation
Martis Search is representing a leading global Financial Services Trading and Brokerage organisation seeking a technically strong, hands-on “Finance Reconciliations, Data Analytics & Automation Manager (VP Level, with progression to become a Director)” to join its expanding “Finance Change” function.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Finance professional who enjoys personally developing reconciliation tools, manipulating complex financial datasets, investigating accounting discrepancies and automating Finance processes.
Importantly, this is not a traditional Finance Transformation Project Manager, Programme Director or people-management position.
Our client is looking for a hands-on specialist who can personally design, build, test and implement practical reconciliation and automation solutions, rather than simply oversee their delivery.
The successful candidate will work across multiple global trading systems, Finance platforms and asset classes, including Equities, Fixed Income, Futures & Options, FX, Derivatives and Commodities.
The position itself:
Our client is undertaking a major, long-term global Finance Data Transformation programme to improve how trading and accounting information is consolidated, reconciled, controlled and reported.
The objective is to establish consistent, reliable financial datasets across the organisation, supporting Management P&L, Balance Sheet substantiation, General Ledger reconciliations, statutory reporting and financial controls.
The successful candidate will play a key hands-on role in developing these datasets and building the reconciliation and automation tools required to support the Finance function.
The role sits within Finance Change and involves close collaboration with Product Control, Financial Control, Finance, Data Engineering and Technology teams.
There are no direct reports. The emphasis is on individual technical contribution, problem-solving and hands-on delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Personally design, develop and implement financial reconciliations across multiple trading systems, accounting platforms and General Ledger datasets.
- Build automated reconciliation processes to identify, investigate and resolve breaks, discrepancies and data inconsistencies.
- Develop practical End User Computing (EUC) tools using advanced Microsoft Excel and potentially Alteryx, VBA, Power Query, Python or similar technologies.
- Work with large, complex financial and trading datasets, manipulating and transforming information to support accurate financial reporting.
- Support Balance Sheet substantiation, Management P&L reporting, General Ledger controls and statutory reporting requirements.
- Develop and enhance financial data controls, ensuring that trading-system information can be accurately reconciled to underlying accounting records.
- Understand trading-system booking models, source systems and financial data flows across different asset classes.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual Finance processes, improve control effectiveness and reduce operational risk.
- Work alongside Data Engineering and IT teams to develop integrated financial datasets and longer-term technology solutions.
- Personally undertake User Acceptance Testing (UAT), investigate technical issues and document reconciliation logic, data processes and control frameworks.
- Become a subject matter expert in the reconciliation tools and datasets developed, supporting their adoption across the wider Finance function.
Candidate Requirements
We are particularly interested in candidates from Product Control, Product Control Change, Financial Control, Finance Change, Balance Sheet Control, Finance Automation or Finance EUC Development backgrounds.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Strong experience within a Finance, Product Control or Financial Control function, preferably gained within an Investment Bank, Brokerage, Commodities Trading firm, Hedge Fund or similarly complex Financial Services environment.
- Proven hands-on experience personally building, developing or automating financial reconciliations, rather than simply reviewing reconciliations or managing teams responsible for them.
- Practical experience investigating reconciliation breaks, identifying root causes and improving financial controls.
- A strong understanding of General Ledger reconciliations, Balance Sheet substantiation, Management P&L and financial accounting principles.
- Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to manipulate, analyse and reconcile large financial datasets.
- Experience developing EUC tools or Finance automation solutions using technologies such as Alteryx, VBA, Power Query, Power BI, Python or Microsoft Access would be highly advantageous.
- The ability to explain precisely which tools and technologies they have personally used to build reconciliation and automation solutions.
- An understanding of trading products, ideally including Equities, Fixed Income, Futures, Options, FX, Derivatives or Commodities.
- Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving capabilities, combined with exceptional attention to detail.
- A practical, control-focused mindset and the ability to work independently on technically challenging problems.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Finance, Product Control, Data Engineering and Technology stakeholders.
- A fully qualified, or part-qualified accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) would be advantageous, although candidates with strong practical Finance and technical experience will also be considered.
The type of candidate we are seeking:
We are particularly keen to speak with professionals who can demonstrate examples of reconciliation and automation tools they have personally developed.
For example, candidates who have:
- Built automated reconciliations between trading platforms and General Ledger systems.
- Developed Excel, VBA, Alteryx or Power Query solutions to replace manual Finance reconciliations.
- Designed matching logic and exception reporting to identify and investigate reconciliation breaks.
- Developed automated Balance Sheet substantiation or financial control processes.
- Manipulated complex trading and accounting datasets to improve data accuracy and financial reporting.
Candidates who remain technically hands-on are particularly encouraged to apply, including experienced Associates, AVPs and VPs seeking progression into a senior individual-contributor position.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Basic salary of £130,000 k pa - £155,000 k pa, depending on experience.
- Competitive discretionary bonus, pension, private healthcare and additional benefits.
- VP-level appointment with progression towards Director.
- A high-profile, long-term global Finance Data Transformation programme.

- Exposure to complex trading systems, global financial markets and multiple asset classes.
- Extensive collaboration with Finance, Product Control, Data Engineering and Technology teams.
- A technically challenging role with significant autonomy and no direct people-management responsibilities.
- London office-based, with one day per week working from home.
