Are you an experienced Transport Planner who thrives in a busy operational environment? This is an opportunity to join a growing logistics and warehousing business providing UK-wide full-load general haulage and backhaul operations, including the collection of import containers from major UK ports such as Tilbury, which are brought to Birmingham for de-stuffing, palletising, storage, and nationwide distribution.
The Role
You’ll work as part of a collaborative planning team responsible for managing day-to-day fleet activity and supporting the Operations Officer and Transport Manager in maintaining exceptional service standards. The role is varied, fast-paced and critical to ensuring efficient use of vehicles, drivers, and subcontractors while maintaining communication with customers and the warehouse team.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and schedule UK-wide full-load and container movements.
- Allocate loads via Mandata TMS, monitor live progress and issue e-manifests.
- Coordinate backhauls and subcontract work.
- Liaise with customers on ETAs, service updates, and waiting-time charges.
- Use R2C and Scania Telematics for compliance and vehicle tracking.
- Collaborate with drivers and warehouse for loading/unloading coordination.
- Participate in a shared out-of-hours on-call rota for overnight support.
About You
- 3-5 years' experience in UK transport planning (full-load, container or general haulage).
- Confident user of Mandata or similar TMS, R2C, and telematics systems.
- Excellent UK geographical knowledge and route planning logic.
- Calm, analytical, and solutions-focused under pressure.
- Collaborative team player with strong communication and influencing skills.
- Commercially aware, detail-driven, and proactive.
- Aspiration to progress toward senior transport leadership roles.
