Martin House provides free specialist palliative care to babies, children and young people with complex and life‑shortening conditions. Families from across West, North and East Yorkshire have access to our care 24/7, 365 days a year, including specialist doctors. Every year we care for more than 550 families, at the hospice, in hospital and in families’ own homes, as well as supporting around 200 bereaved family members. With the opening of our wonderful extended and refurbished site, we are looking to add to our catering team by appointing a full‑time Catering assistant. They will plan, prepare and deliver high‑quality, nutritious meals for children, young adults, their families and staff within a hospice environment, ensuring all food is safe and culturally appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Head Chef with menu planning and preparation, considering nutrition standards, sustainability, cultural requirements, feedback from children and families, and budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure all food is prepared to a consistently high standard, with appropriate variation and choice for children, young people and families.
  • Maintain accurate and auditable documentation (temperature logs, cleaning schedules, allergen records, waste records, food probe calibration).

Qualifications

  • Commitment to Martin House’s values – Excellence, Respect, Integrity and Compassion.
  • Hold a Food Hygiene Level 3 qualification.
  • Possess GCSE Maths and English (grade 4 or above) or equivalent.
  • Experience of maintaining relevant Food standards and Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Experience of successfully delivering consistently high food standards & quality.

Salary £24,852.66 – £29,734.14 per annum. Please note starting salaries usually start at the bottom of the scale.
