The Cell Supervisor role will support the Under Seat Rocket Motor (USRM) team, based at the Chalgrove site in Oxfordshire, leading a talented and high performing manufacturing cell, running a cutting-edge machine shop. The USRM cell is an exciting environment, contributing to the ejection seat products that Martin-Baker manufactures.

The Opportunity

The Cell Supervisor will lead an interesting and skilled team at the Chalgrove site, including CNC machining, painting/finishing and assembly specialists. The team runs machining operations 7 days per week, including unmanned production schedules. You’ll understand how machine shops operate, including CNC machine resources, bringing proven experience of managing high performing production teams within engineering environments.

This role is based onsite working from Chalgrove.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead, develop and motivate the USRM Cell, ensuring that workloads, work patterns and skills are aligned to targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Ensure that output / production targets are achieved through effective resource management.
  • Ensure that health and safety responsibilities follow company and statutory guidelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement activities across the USRM cell.
  • Use SAP and the quality management system (QMS) to raise and log production activities.
  • Work with the Cell Leader to set annual objectives and manage the USRM team.

What We’re Looking For

  • Relevant experience and understanding of how machine shops and CNC machines operate, within engineering environments.
  • Experience of new product introduction (NPI).
  • Seasoned experience of manufacturing techniques and methodologies.
  • Proven understanding of component drawings, inspection of detail and assembled parts.
  • Can deliver high standards, with proven abilities managing teams, raising team performance levels and enjoys leading by example.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to doing things right first time.
  • Ability to interpret and follow processes, technical information or business requirements as relevant to the role.
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • A proactive, accountable approach with the judgement to raise issues early and help resolve them.
