What You’ll Be Doing
Martin-Baker is the world’s leading manufacturer of ejection seats, helping to protect aircrew in the world’s most advanced military aircraft. Our mission is simple – to save aircrew lives.
Join us on this mission as a Cartridge and Rocket Motor Technician within the friendly and supportive Operations department, based in Chalgrove, Oxfordshire.
This role will be shift based beginning January 2026 and will require applicants to work 4 days on and 4 days off (totaling 177 shifts per annum,Bank holidays, except those occurring during the end-of-year shutdown, are counted as shift days) within the hours 08:00 – 17:30. There is a shift allowance and holiday entitlement is incorporated in the shift schedule.
During the remainder of 2025 applicants will be working our regular hours of 08:00 – 16:45 Monday to Thursday and 08:00 to 12:00 on Fridays, a shift allowance will not be included.
Aspects of the role to include.
X-Ray – Perform radiography using DR and CT for detection of anomalies and incorrect assembly of cartridge and rocket assemblies in accordance with company procedures.
Proof Testing – Proof firing of cartridges and rocket motors including assembly and setting up of chambers and analyses of firing data.
Leak Testing – Measuring the rate of escapement of helium from cartridges using a mass spectrometer to agreed test limits.
Inspection – Visual inspection of cartridges and rocket motors ensuring conformance to engineering drawings.
Part Marking – Inkjet marking cartridges with part and batch information in accordance with engineering drawings.
Cartridge Assembly – Assembly of category 1 (low complexity) cartridges following company build plans, process work instructions and engineering drawings.
Packing – Packing cartridges and rocket motors into a specified licensed packaging.
Manufacturing Support – Transportation of cartridges and rocket motors from stores and magazines to process rooms including delivery of tooling and assistance of hardware shortfall fulfillment
Working with others –Chalgrove cell Leader, PED, QA/ QC, Production Control, Stores and Denham. In meetings and in day-to-day activity. Solving problems through co-ordination and technical knowledge.

Characteristics & Skills
- Experience in similar NDT roles is essential.
- Solid data analysis skills.
- Self-inspection.
- Reading and understanding Engineering drawings, route cards and relevant documentation.
- Level 1 Radiographer ASNT Certification (desirable)
- Using a digital x-ray system (desirable)
- Understanding and interpretation of relevant test ATPs, QAI and relevant x-ray techniques (desirable)
