Circa £40,000 per annum pro-rata

Based at Sophie House (Hampton Bishop) & Martha House (Hampton Green), Hereford (HR1)

24-30 hours per week, over 3 or 4 days

A vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Speech and Language Therapist for the Trust.

The role provides professional advice, assessment, care planning and review for 28 residents across 2 homes, which provide lifelong care for people with Profound and Multiple Learning and Physical Disabilities.

You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary therapy team with an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Complementary Therapist, Music Therapist; and will have an experienced part‑time SALT Assistant to support you at each home. The multidisciplinary therapy team works in collaboration with a well‑resourced, experienced and skilled workforce of nurses, nursing associates and carers to deliver complex, individualised, holistic care to residents of all ages.

Advanced training in dysphagia and feeding; and the management of complex communication needs are essential. Experience of IDDSI framework for food textures and thickening drinks; and of guiding and training others in feeding techniques, equipment and textures are vital parts of the role.

The successful candidate must also have experience in managing complex communication needs with people who are predominantly non‑verbal. Immersive interactive sensory projection (OMI) for sensory enrichment techniques and Eyegaze based communication devices are available at both homes. Intensive interaction and use of objects of reference are fundamentals of communication. The Trust is in the process of rolling out Active Support (Australia) and some residents are familiar with Signalong and Makaton.

You will need to have a degree‑level qualification which is accredited by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and have active membership of the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).

You will be given a high degree of autonomy, independence and authority in your personal delivery of the role, within your professional boundaries. You will therefore have a degree of freedom to be creative in how you respond to challenges and manage yourself and the role. You will need to be experienced, confident, self‑aware and competent in your practice.
