Salary: £25,000 - £35,000 depending on experience

Martek is a design-led manufacturing company specialising in bespoke furniture, joinery and product development. We are looking for an enthusiastic Junior CAD / Product Designer to join our team. This opportunity would particularly suit a recent graduate in Furniture Design, Product Design, Design Engineering or a related discipline, or someone in the early stages of their design career.

The role

Working alongside our design, project management and production teams, you will help take projects from initial ideas and technical development through to manufacture and installation. Depending on the project, you may contribute to concept development, prototyping, material selection and design improvement, as well as producing accurate drawings for manufacture.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing 2D and 3D CAD models, production drawings and assembly details
  • Developing designs into practical, manufacturable solutions
  • Creating prototypes and components using 3D printing
  • Preparing and optimising CAD files for additive manufacturing
  • Supporting CNC, CAD/CAM and other manufacturing processes
  • Testing prototypes and refining designs in response to results
  • Liaising with project managers, suppliers and production teams
  • Assisting with site surveys, installation planning and on-site requirements
  • Helping to resolve design and manufacturing challenges throughout a project
  • Assisting with sample submittals and managing our sample library

About you

You will ideally have:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Furniture Design, Product Design, Design Engineering, CAD or a related subject
  • Experience using AutoCAD and 3D CAD software
  • Some experience of 3D printing, whether through university, personal projects or employment
  • The ability to communicate ideas through drawings, models and prototypes
  • A practical approach and an interest in how products are developed, manufactured and installed
  • Good communication, organisation and numerical skills
  • The ability to manage priorities, work independently and contribute to a team
  • A proactive attitude and a genuine desire to learn and develop

Graduate, placement and personal portfolio projects are welcome. We are more interested in your potential, practical thinking and enthusiasm than extensive industry experience.

What we offer

  • A permanent PAYE position within a supportive, friendly team
  • Hands-on involvement across design, prototyping, 3D printing, manufacture and installation
  • Opportunities to work on varied projects in the UK and internationally
  • Training and scope to develop your design, technical and practical skills
  • Salary review after three months
  • On-site parking, company events and good public transport links to East Croydon
