About the Marston’s Foundation
The Marston’s Foundation exists to support charities and community organisations through grants and fundraising initiatives, helping make a positive difference in the communities connected to Marston’s Pubs. The Foundation considers applications from a wide range of charitable causes, ensuring funds raised and donated are used effectively, responsibly and in line with the Foundation’s charitable objectives.
The Role
We are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Trustee to join the Board of the Marston’s Foundation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to charitable decision‑making, support community impact, and help oversee the effective governance of the Foundation. As someone with no vested interest in Marston’s PLC, you will play a vital role in reviewing grant applications, ensuring funds are awarded fairly and transparently, and supporting the overall strategic direction of the Foundation. As our only external trustee, we encourage someone to challenge assumptions constructively, help us to make balanced decisions and ensure we avoid “group think” or overly internal viewpoints.
Key Responsibilities
- Act in the best interests of the Marston’s Foundation and its beneficiaries
- Review and assess grant applications
- Ensure funds are used appropriately for charitable purposes
- Support good governance, compliance and financial oversight
- Contribute to Trustee discussions and decision‑making
- Act as an ambassador for the Marston’s Foundation and its values
Who We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from individuals with a genuine interest in charity and community support. Previous trustee experience is helpful but not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience or interest in:
- Charity governance or grant‑making
- Finance, legal, compliance or risk
- Corporate social responsibility (CSR)
- Strategic planning or decision‑making
Most important is a willingness to engage, ask questions, and contribute thoughtfully.
What You’ll Gain
- An opportunity to make a real difference to charitable causes and communities
- Experience of charity governance and strategic decision‑making
- The chance to work alongside committed Trustees
- Personal and professional development within a supportive environment
Commitment
This is a voluntary role. Trustees are expected to attend scheduled meetings every 6 weeks, usually on a Thursday.
