We have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Manager to join the Procurement Team in Marston’s Pubs and Bars. This role will be responsible for a significant amount of food contracts as well as across a broad spectrum of other areas including drinks, equipment, services, and consumables. This is a permanent role, reporting to the Director of Procurement.

The Role:

  • Ensure optimum commercial terms whilst ensuring best fit for the business requirements.
  • Identify strategic opportunities and value adding initiatives.
  • Ensure effective category management, identify new opportunities to reduce costs, rationalise the product range, eliminate duplication and move as close to source in all categories as possible.
  • Negotiation and management of categories as indicated by the Director of Procurement.
  • Contribute to the NPD process with joint responsibility for sourcing new products, arranging trials and organising the most cost-effective supply chain route.
  • Work with the wider Procurement team to effectively manage new product introduction and deletion within the supply chain and the proactive handling of residual stock.
  • Continual review of the supplier base to ensure continuity of development, supply, due diligence, and effective crisis management.
  • Effective identification of risk and the planning and execution of contingency strategies.
  • Management of the relationships with our third-party distributors.
  • Ensure the ethical, environmental and sustainability credentials of our suppliers and product range.
  • Monitor and act upon market trends and influences which may affect the portfolio of products.
  • Build effective working relationships and establish an effective network of links internally and externally.
  • Supplier performance monitoring and ongoing supplier review / evaluation.
  • Ensure that effective and robust contracts are in place and ensure that a critical path is managed for all areas of responsibility.
  • Liaise effectively with all internal stakeholders to ensure that business requirements are addressed.
  • Ensure all savings and charters are accurately documented, monitored, and achieved.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A strategic thinker demonstrating a thorough understanding of supplier relationship and value adding strategies.
  • Results driven and self-motivated; able to demonstrate a proven track record in relevant procurement areas; especially food categories.
  • Able to seek and create new opportunities and benefits.
  • An excellent communicator with the ability to sell ideas and initiatives with clarity.
  • Able to effectively manage internal customer relationships.
  • Comfortable with handling complex contracts.
  • Equipped with excellent negotiation skills via both formal training within CIPS/Industry bodies and having experience in relevant fields.
  • Knowledgeable of processes and procedures involved in procurement, such as cost analysis, tender processes, contractual issues.
  • Experience managing direct reports.
  • Able to demonstrate market/commercial awareness with the ability to identify and act upon influences affecting cost, quality, and availability.
  • Ideally fully CIPS qualified to level 6.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent and showing evidence of ongoing professional development within this sector.
  • IT literate with excellent analytical skills.
