About The Role

Marston’s Traffic Technology division is at the forefront of delivering innovative smart city solutions, including traffic enforcement systems, clean air zones, and air quality monitoring technologies. We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between product development and real world service delivery. This role is critical in ensuring the successful deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of our advanced technology solutions. You will work cross‑functionally with R&D, Service Delivery, Operations, and Engineering teams, ensuring high quality service, robust processes, and seamless customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of consultants and technicians responsible for testing, configuration, and deployment of edge computing, AQM, and camera based systems.
  • Oversee configuration, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems.
  • Provide 3rd line technical support for complex issues and lead advanced troubleshooting.
  • Maintain system uptime monitoring, field trials, and installation support activities.
  • Ensure accurate documentation via SOPs, BoMs, and technical manuals.
  • Collaborate with Service Delivery and Operations teams to meet customer commitments and SLAs.
  • Support VIP client sites with hyper care and high priority technical oversight.
  • Drive continuous improvement through root cause analysis and issue trend monitoring.
  • Engage internal stakeholders to define, plan, and deliver technical projects.
  • Contribute to agile workflows, including ticket creation, prioritisation, and daily stand‑ups.
  • Provide hands‑on input into R&D activities, including system design and testing.
  • Support the transition of new technologies from development into live environments.
  • Contribute to quality control processes for software, devices, and systems.

About You

  • Technically strong leader with a background in software, IT, or engineering environments.
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Computing, Electronics, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a relevant technical role.
  • Strong understanding of networking, system integration, and connected devices (cameras, routers, edge computing).
  • Experience with databases, file systems, and communication technologies (e.g., FTP, IP networks).
  • Leading cross‑functional technical teams across operations and development.
  • Supporting live systems, deployments, and service continuity.
  • Field‑based experience with installation, commissioning, and maintenance of technical systems.
  • Working within regulated or high‑reliability environments (e.g., smart cities, transport, enforcement technology).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Certifications in networking (e.g., CCNA), cloud/DevOps, cybersecurity, or agile methodologies.
  • Experience with database management and system administration.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (TCP/IP, MQTT, CoAP, etc.).
  • Experience with wireless technologies (4G/5G, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.).
  • Experience with UK traffic enforcement systems or Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).
  • Familiarity with relevant UK legislation and compliance frameworks.

Additional Information

Requires regular travel across the UK, including to head office and client sites. You will play a hands‑on role in deploying and supporting cutting‑edge smart city technologies.
