We are seeking an experienced Flood & Water Management Associate to lead and oversee the delivery of technical design services across a diverse portfolio of projects, from inception through to completion. This is a senior, hands-on role combining technical leadership, project management, and team development. You will be responsible for producing and reviewing detailed drainage and flood risk designs, ensuring high quality outputs, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
You will also play a key role in growing and developing a high performing Flood Team, while supporting business development and client engagement activities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead the delivery of flood risk assessments and drainage design projects
- Develop detailed design packages for construction, including SuDS and attenuation solutions
- Oversee and approve technical outputs, ensuring quality and compliance with standards
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring delivery to programme, budget, and quality expectations
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated project delivery
- Undertake flood risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies
- Model and assess existing drainage networks
- Produce and agree drainage strategies with stakeholders
- Support training, development, and technical upskilling of team members
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders, confidently presenting technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Actively promote services and support business development activities
- Prepare fee estimates, proposals, and quality submissions for tenders
- Manage financial performance of projects, ensuring delivery within fee budgets
- Maintain strong understanding of CDM regulations and health & safety requirements
About You
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or related discipline)
- Chartered status (or working towards) with a relevant professional body (e.g. CIWEM, ICE, CIHT)
- Substantial experience in detailed drainage design
- Proven experience delivering projects across local authority and private sector environments
- Strong background in flood risk, drainage strategies, SuDS, and public realm projects
- Strong technical expertise in drainage modelling and design
- Experience with MicroDrainage, InfoWorks ICM, InfoDrainage, and Civil 3D (desirable)
- Experience in business development, including fee estimation and proposal writing
- Ability to solve complex problems and develop innovative solutions
