We’re on a mission to make migration easy. We started building Marshmallow in 2017. Since then, we’ve grown from 3 to 700+ people, gained unicorn status, raised ~£140M over three funding rounds, turned profitable, insured millions of drivers and lent millions in car loans. But we’re only just getting started. Our goal is to become one of the largest financial services providers in the world. Over the next 10 years we’ll grow exponentially, not only by scaling our existing products, but also by building new ones.
To achieve our goals we need incredibly ambitious, commercially driven people who never settle for ‘good enough’. Marshmallowers are hungry for autonomy and ownership, and would rather improve than coast. Everyone raises standards and has an impact, with a focus on collective success over self-interest. We’ve created an environment where curious, tenacious people win and grow together. If that sounds motivating, this could be the place for you.
Car Finance at Marshmallow
Marshmallow is opening up access to credit to migrants, bringing a brand new product to market which provides newcomers to the UK with fairly priced car finance for the first time. Our Car Finance team is building a new kind of lending experience from the ground up, making it simple, transparent and accessible for people who need finance to get on the road. We work closely with dealers, brokers and customers to make sure that every application, decision and interaction is fast, fair and easy to understand.
Because we're a small, high-performing team, everyone has real ownership. We combine hands-on operations — from customer queries and collections to underwriting — with a strong focus on automation and technology. We're designing highly automated, AI-powered processes that let us move faster and smarter than traditional lenders. Car Finance is one of the most important growth areas for Marshmallow, and we're looking for someone who's excited to be at the heart of it: working directly with customers and partners today, while helping to build a world-class, highly automated operational engine for the future.
What you'll be doing
- Use your experience, a variety of data sources and our technology to make fast, fair and accurate lending decisions for customers applying for car finance.
- Balance risk and commercial reasoning to ensure the right outcomes for both the customer and Marshmallow.
- Where necessary, identify where further information is needed to make a decision and obtain this from the customer.
- Make confident decisions, ensuring they are in line with business rules, processes, and regulatory parameters.
- Collaborate with other internal departments where necessary.
- Process improvement – identifying improvement of internal processes where appropriate.
Who You Are
- You display proactivity in finding solutions rather than waiting for others to act.
- You're curious and unafraid to ask questions, there’s no such thing as a silly one and we are all on a journey of discovery.
- You’re comfortable with ambiguity and motivated by working in an environment where things move quickly and change over time.
- You’re driven by impact and growth, and excited by the opportunity to help scale a new commercial function within the business.
- A strong team player who enjoys supporting colleagues and collaborating to improve processes.
What You'll Bring
- 1-3 years experience working for a UK lender in a credit underwriting role and making credit decisions. Motor finance experience is strongly preferred, as is working in a Fintech/start-up environment.
- Adaptability and flexibility - we are scaling massively and the role of the underwriter is likely to evolve alongside this.
- Analytical mindset that is comfortable identifying and raising issues or process improvements.
- Organised and ability to work at speed, processing multiple applications each hour.
We are not in a position to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
