We are looking for a New Product Development (NPD) & Innovation Design Specialist to fuel the next generation of product innovation across our Bricks & Masonry and Civils & Drainage portfolios. Our Bricks & Masonry and Civils & Drainage business units are central to Marshalls’ growth strategy and innovation agenda. These teams deliver market-leading solutions that support the construction of homes, commercial buildings, and critical infrastructure across the UK. Early-stage innovation is key to help future-proof our offering, strengthen our market leadership, and create more sustainable, efficient, and technically advanced solutions.
As one of two NPD & Innovation Design Specialists your mission is to turn insight, research, and creativity into scalable, commercially viable product concepts that enhance Marshalls’ competitive edge. In this mission you will:
- Generate, research, and develop early-stage product concepts & designs using emerging technologies and customer / market insights
- Collaborate with Product Portfolio Leads and Product Managers to shape the product pipeline
- Translate ideas into prototypes, design models, and clear technical specifications
- Support the optimisation and redesign of existing product ranges
- Ensure all concepts are aligned with strategy, technically feasible, and capable of being manufactured efficiently at scale
You’ll work in close partnership with colleagues across Sales, Product, Marketing, and Operations to name a few, bringing new ideas to life & ensure every concept is aligned, validated, and ready to progress. The role requires collaborative working from our head office in Elland 1-2 days a week so it is essential you reside within a commutable distance of this location.
What are the mission critical skills?
Essential
- Degree-qualified in Design Engineering, Product Design & Development, or a related technical discipline
- Proven and established experience of formulating, developing and delivering product concepts across building, civils and / or construction related products
- Strong engineering, design and / or manufacturing background
- Experienced in the use of CAD (preferably Solidworks) to bring your ideas and innovations to life
- Knowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of a range of building and construction products
- Understanding of the patent process and its relevance to product innovation
- Experience managing resources and budgets, with an understanding of key financial drivers
- Innovative, open-minded approach to New Product Development
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills
Desirable
- PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent
This is a high-impact role where you’ll help shape the future product roadmap for two of our key business units, with direct involvement from concept creation through to commercial launch.
