Marshalls Water Management is a leading manufacturer of precast concrete drainage and bespoke products with manufacturing sites in Pollington and Mells. We are looking for a Yard Team Manager to support our Operations Manager to exceed KPIs by ensuring that business objectives are cascaded through to our manufacturing teams, engaging the hearts and minds of the company’s employees to create and sustain a pro‑active culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead the safe and efficient operation of a busy civils and drainage yard, ensuring effective yard utilisation and on‑time deliveries.
- Oversee the movement of stock from production into the yard and through to dispatch, including the safe loading and unloading of vehicles and the use of mobile plant equipment such as FLTs, loading shovels, and telehandlers.
- Work closely with production and transport teams to drive performance, reduce waste, and maintain high quality standards across all yard activities.
- Manage a team of circa 25 operatives, taking responsibility for all first‑line people management including attendance, holidays, training, welfare, and discipline.
- Ensure your team operate plant and equipment safely and efficiently, maintain excellent housekeeping standards and consistently deliver against KPI targets.
- Ensure full compliance with company policies and site standards, promote best working practices, and take a zero‑tolerance approach to unsafe behaviours while remaining hands‑on in the yard during busy periods.
Mission‑Critical Skills
- Experience managing yard, logistics or manufacturing operations ideally in construction, civils or heavy industry.
- Proven background in team leadership managing circa 25 staff.
- Experience with stock control, dispatch and warehouse/yard flow.
- Hands‑on experience with mobile plant equipment e.g. FLTs, telehandlers, loading shovels.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, including risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Coordinate yard activity and dispatch to meet customer demand and on‑time delivery targets.
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of operatives to achieve performance, safety and quality goals.
- Deliver training to maintain plant competency and build a flexible, multi‑skilled workforce.
- Identify and resolve operational issues, driving continuous improvement and reducing waste.
- Maintain accurate records of stock, dispatch and yard performance.
- Ensure routine equipment checks and work with maintenance teams to minimise downtime.
- Carry out regular inspections, maintaining high housekeeping standards and addressing safety concerns promptly.
Requirements
- Proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role within the concrete or wider construction materials industry (desirable).
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make effective decisions under pressure.
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Relevant IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word etc) for operational reporting and communication purposes.
- Knowledge & understanding of Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Experience in implementing continuous improvement / lean manufacturing techniques e.g. DMAIC (advantage).
- IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH General Certificate and other relevant qualifications.
- Formal continuous improvement / lean manufacturing qualification.
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Management or a related discipline.
