Employee Relations Advisor
Elland, West Yorkshire (Hybrid working – one/two days in the office) – Full time, Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours per week.
Marshalls is the UK's leading hard landscaping, building and roofing products supplier.
We look for an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to join our People Services team in a hands‑on, busy role supporting colleagues and leaders across our manufacturing sites and office functions.
Opportunity
You will provide expert advice and guidance in line with our HR practices and procedures, managing employee relations cases such as performance and absence management, disciplinary and grievance, and appropriately challenging and investigating cases when needed.
You will be the go‑to support for managers, coach them on best practice, interpret UK employment law, and manage casework from start to finish.
Additional responsibilities include leading investigations, supporting drug and alcohol policy processes, delivering HR training to new managers, supporting occupational health referrals, and maintaining relationships with unions and site representatives.
You will collaborate with the wider HR team on company and HR objectives, maintain case logs, monitor absence triggers, and support change management, complex employee relations, and policy overhauls.
Qualifications
- Proven experience managing a varied and demanding employee relations caseload within a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and its practical application.
- Experience providing expert advice and guidance to managers on policy interpretation and case management from start to finish.
- Experience supporting managers through organisational change initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coach, influence, and appropriately challenge stakeholders.
- Accountability for workload with ability to manage priorities independently and to know when to escalated matters.
- Proactive, solutions‑focused approach, initiative to identify process improvements and resolve issues effectively.
- Experience delivering HR training sessions or workshops.
- Strong organisational skills, maintaining accurate case logs, tracking absence data, prioritising project work.
- Commitment to professional development, actively seeking opportunities to build capability and knowledge.
- Experience working within a unionised environment highly advantageous.
- A CIPD Level 5 qualification preferred, or equivalent experience.
