As an Apprentice Aircraft Fitter, you will be expected to develop the high level of skill and knowledge required to carry out maintenance, repairs and modifications to a variety of aircraft, safely, on time and within budget.

As a fitter, the role has by necessity a very high level of quality control in order to maintain the aircraft safely and to regulatory standards. There is a requirement for you to gain a developed understanding of Marshall processes and procedures to be compliant with these standards.

The Apprenticeship

As an Apprentice – Aircraft Fitter working in our Military Aerospace business you will be following the Level 3 Aircraft Maintenance Apprenticeship Standard. You will gain the following qualifications during the programme:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft maintenance (Civil Aircraft Mechanical)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Aviation Maintenance (Development Competence)

During the programme you will develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required through a range of workshop training, classroom sessions and on‑the‑job learning. You will be supported every step of the way by our instructors, mentors, line managers and fellow apprentices.

Responsibilities

  • Attending and engaging with training, including exams and 1-2-1 meetings with your tutors/assessors.
  • Managing your time effectively to complete all coursework, assignments and exams required to achieve the apprenticeship.
  • Reflecting on your own practice and experiences and taking any feedback on board.
  • Scheduling aircraft maintenance and servicing.
  • Conducting unscheduled aircraft maintenance including defect rectification to aircraft systems and components.
  • Repairing airframe structures.
  • Performing all levels of modifications to aircraft structures, systems and interiors.
  • Carrying out related duties, including operation of ground equipment, assistance in aircraft movements and aircraft delivery.

Entry Requirements

  • At least 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C/4-9 (or equivalent) including Mathematics, English Language and Science.
  • You must not have already completed the Level 2 and 3 qualifications listed above.
  • To receive apprenticeship funding you must have the right to work in the UK and meet residency eligibility requirements.
