Health and Safety Manager in Hastings

During an exciting time of expansion, w e have a new vacancy for a H&S Manager to join our team based at our head office in Hastings with sitewide responsibilities at two other branches ( Manchester and Watford ). This is a strategic role that will focus on compliance with safety regulations, develop and enforce policies whilst promoting a safe working culture and employee wellbeing . We need a dynamic and motivated individual willing to explore and challenge current practices making it possible for our Company to expand into the future . This role oversees our facilities and estates team. This is a full-time permanent role working 35 hours per week .

What are the main duties of this role?

• Serve as the first point of contact for all Health & Safety matters across all sites.
• Ensure Facilities and Estates compliance is current and maintained across all sites.
• Develop, maintain, and manage all aspects of Health & Safety, including policies, procedures, processes, and systems.
• Advise and train managers and employees on Health & Safety processes, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Act as the Management Representative to regulatory and statutory bodies.
• Create, manage, and maintain critical records, including training matrices, compliance logs, and other documentation.
• Investigate safety incidents, near-misses, and non-compliance issues, and implement corrective actions.
• Coordinate Safety Committee Meetings (SCM) once a month.
• Provide timely reports on Health & Safety performance, risks, and improvements at SCM and to management.
• Maintain a legislation and compliance register, ensuring all legal requirements are met.
• Conduct Health & Safety meetings, producing accurate minutes, follow-up actions, and updates for management.
• Identify areas for building, equipment, or infrastructure improvements, and recommend technical solutions to maintain a safe and efficient workplace.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to proactively manage workplace hazards.
• Ecovadis support with all H&S tasks and actions needed
• Lead and manage another member of staff, whilst overseeing the facilities team. This includes task delegation, performance management, coaching, and development.
• Foster a proactive safety culture across the team and wider organisation.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum 5 years H&S experience in a similar manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience of Facilities & Estates management and improvement.
• Experience of Quality Systems and auditing is required.
• Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding the implications and requirements and the application of H&S legislation / standards.
• Able to develop, manage and maintain processes and systems with regard to Risk Assessments, PPE, Audits, PUWER, Work Permits, Asbestos, Fire Safety, COSHH, Vibration (HAV / WBV risks), Safe Systems of Work etc.
• Able to use a variety of software associated to the function.
• Experience in the management and administration associated with the control of a H&S system
• Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively at all levels, providing appropriate policy and procedural documents along with training and support to enable the effective application of Company Health & Safety systems.
