We are currently seeking a Trainee Air Traffic Services Assistant to join our small and highly motivated team at Cambridge City Airport. The Trainee Air Traffic Services Assistant reports to the Manager - Air Traffic Assistants and Compliance and their role is to assist the controllers (ATCOs) to provide a safe, expeditious and orderly flow of aircraft movements.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing support to the ATCOs in a safe manner within the ATC function.
  • Operating as an assistant ensuring compliance with the Aerodrome Safety Management System including Change Management process where applicable.
  • Embracing the company’s approach to Safety Culture.
  • Reporting occurrences that may not be captured by the MOR scheme and other safety related information perceived to be an actual or potential hazard to aviation safety.
  • Operating to the unit ATSA training plan, in conjunction with the MATA & C and where part of that training aim to meet the appropriate milestones prior to the commencement of unsupervised operational duty.
  • Preparing and disseminating meteorology observations and aeronautical information for the benefit of controllers and aircraft pilots.

Tasks will include:

  • Operating as an ATSA to assist the controllers to provide a safe, expeditious and orderly flow of aircraft movements.
  • Post-employment gaining a Meteorological Observers qualification to enable you to prepare and disseminate meteorology observations and aeronautical information for the benefit of controllers and aircraft pilots.
  • Passing information to other members of staff on Aircraft movements, Flight bookings, Royal Flights, Navigation warnings and other Airspace activity, and send flight plans and departure slot related messages to external agencies.
  • In the event of an aircraft emergency, making 999 calls and following the ATC Actions within the Airport Emergency Plans.
  • Participating in operating the Air Traffic Services simulator.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by your Manager.

  • UK driving license and good colour perception are also a requirement.
  • Prior experience in an air traffic environment (desirable).
  • Prior experience of managing a small team (desirable).

Additional Local Needs:

  • Security clearance required.
  • GSAT approval required.
  • Occasional business travel requirement.
  • Physically able to access stairs (to access visual control room in ATC tower).
  • Requirement to be risk/hazard analysis trained.
