As an Airport Firefighter at Cambridge Airport, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our airport safe while supporting a wide range of operational activities that ensure the smooth running of the airfield. This is far more than a traditional firefighting role—you’ll also be involved in aircraft marshalling, baggage handling, wildlife hazard management, aircraft de-icing and towing, and seasonal airfield operations such as snow clearance. Working as part of a collaborative "One Team" culture, you’ll deliver exceptional customer service, interacting professionally with flight crews, passengers, and customers while supporting colleagues across the airport to ensure every operation runs safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and effective rescue and firefighter service to those in need
  • Attend a variety of incidents including aircraft-related emergencies and first aid calls
  • Maintain a high standard of competence by participating in a comprehensive on-station training program in addition to your attendance twice a year at the international fire training centre
  • Conduct educational visits from schools / scouts / brownies etc and explain the purpose of our service
  • Ensure consistently high standards of customer service are delivered at all times
  • Communicate with other airport teams to ensure a seamless delivery of customer service
  • Ensure that all provisions of the health and safety act at work, civil aviation authority directives and airport policies, procedures and regulations are maintained at all times
  • Carry out any reasonable task requested of you
  • Provide evidence through personal training records
  • Assist with routine test and inspections of fire service appliance and equipment
  • Maintain station administration documents for regulatory inspections
  • Provide assistance to disabled passengers or patients transported by air ambulance
  • Undertake aircraft marshalling and other ramp duties
  • Provide assistance in a wide range of safety related ground operation functions for example, wildlife hazard control, aircraft anti-icing or snow clearing

Technical Competencies

  • Working knowledge of IT
  • Knowledge of Regulation UK (EU) 139/2014
  • Knowledge of Cap 168
  • Knowledge of Cap 772
  • Knowledge of CAP 699
  • Knowledge of emergency plan

Education

  • High standard of numerical and literacy skills
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Fire Service Certificate of Competency

Experience

  • Previous fire service experience
  • Previous airport experience in other areas
  • LGV Qualified
  • First aid qualified
  • IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Additional Local Needs

  • Be able to successfully complete enhanced security checks
  • Physically fit and able to maintain physical standard to prescribed level
  • Ability to work early and late shifts as rostered to include unsociable hours
